How much money would have to be lying in the street for Bill Gates to bother with it

May 22, 2014 By Abraham 1

Let’s say a quarter is the smallest unit of currency that a person with an average middle-class income will definitely stop to pick up if they see one on the sidewalk. How does that translate to Bill Gates, with his net worth of billions?

How much money would have to be lying on the street before it would be worth it to Bill Gates to bend over and pick it up?

Obviously, that’s not how it works. I imagine he would stop and pick up a quarter just like the rest of us. But let’s join Neil deGrasse Tyson in a lecture from a few years ago and pretend for a moment…

And now let’s see how Bill Gates actually answers this question…

  1. Bicycle Bill says:

At first, Bill Gates said he would stop and pick it up and then went on about how nice it would be to give it back to the person who had lost it.  An admirable thought.

But then he says he would pick it up and give it to the Foundation (by which I assume he meant the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) because of the amount of good it would do.  So now he has stolen someone else’s $100 to further his own social agenda ;)
