photo of a woman and her baby being rescued from Hurricane Harvey has gone viral and in turn, touched many people who have seen it. Most people who look at the image see an incredible example of humanity - people coming together to help one another, no matter the cost. However, for conservative blogger Matt Walsh, the picture served an entirely different purpose.
He couldn't simply let the photo exist as an inspiration.
Instead, he felt the need to twist it to fit his own narrative.
As Hurricane Harvey continues to devastate Texas, many heartwarming stories of heroism have also come to light.
On Sunday, Officer Daryl Hudeck carried Catherine Pham and her 13-month-old son Aiden through the knee-deep water covering Interstate 610.
The touching image has since gone viral and many see the trio as the faces of heroism in the wake of devastation. One blogger, however, couldn’t resist the opportunity to use the photo to support his own outdated views on gender roles.
On Monday, conservative blogger Matt Walsh shared his own ridiculous interpretation of the photo in a tweet.
Apparently, this notorious provocateur couldn’t simply be happy that Catherine and Aiden were rescued.
Instead, he co-opted the photo and used it as a way to try and spread his own antiquated opinions on men and women.
Twitter users immediately called him out for completely missing the point of the image.
Seriously. Not everything needs to be made into a political statement or a way to further an agenda.
Most people see the image of Daryl, Catherine, and Aiden and are simply happy to see humans helping one another.
Not only that, but Walsh's entire idea that women apparently aren't supposed to rescue people is totally bonkers.
There are so many women whose job it is to save others. They might be soldiers, firefighters, doctors, police officers, or even just someone who’s in the right place at the right time.
In the world that Matt Walsh envisions, these women would be better suited to taking care of the children while letting the men handle all the danger.
This Twitter user will rescue you regardless of your gender.
And, frankly, she seems more than qualified to rescue just about anyone.
Got a problem with that, Matt Walsh?
While there were plenty of responses that called Walsh out for his outdated opinion, one response stood out above the rest.
