hen you're a delicate young soul whose pop hits include titles like "Baby", "Sorry", and "Love Me", it's probably in your own best interest to avoid feuds with demonic rock stars.
Unfortunately for J-Biebs, he put his foot pretty far into his mouth during a recent interaction with Marilyn Manson, the rocker known for making parents afraid of Satan again, igniting 2017's most bizarre celebrity feud.
As we're sure you can imagine, it didn't go well.
Last summer, Justin Bieber re-purposed an old Marilyn Manson t-shirt.
The shirt was basically just some old Manson merch with an extra bit of Bieber flare added. On the back, it read “Bigger than Satan… Bieber”. Something that I’m sure made a lot of parents happy.
But Bieber didn’t just make one shirt to wear for himself, he started mass producing them and selling them, profiting off of Marilyn Manson’s image.
The item was priced at $195 at Barneys.
For a t-shirt. This would be, on its own, enough of a reason for basically anyone to be livid. But the outrage didn’t end there.
Bieber did, in fact, approach Manson about the shirt, but instead of asking politely if he could make money off of Manson’s fame, he put his foot in his mouth. Way way in his mouth.
He actually told Manson that he'd "made him relevant again."
As Manson told Consequence of Sound, “He was a real piece of sh*t in the way he had the arrogance to say that,” which, profanity aside, is pretty on the nose. We don’t always have to tell everyone what we’re thinking. Some things are just better left unsaid.
Manson described the meeting as all around uncomfortable.
“He was a real touchy-feely guy, too, like, ‘yo yo bro!’ and touches you when he’s talking.” A pretty infuriating habit anyway, but even more confusing when you think about Justin Bieber of all people doing this to Marilyn Manson. Not a man known for being warm and cuddly.
Like anything involving Bieber, the scandal blew up Twitter.
Fans of both stars went off about the beef. With many people incredulous that the Canadian pop star would dare to challenge Marilyn Manson, of all people. But of course there were plenty of Bielibers ready to stan for the dude who tried to sell them a $200 t-shirt that was ripped off from another artist.
Here’s what people had to say…
