The lighter side of 2012 in photographs [15 pictures]

The Atlantic has a 3-part series of “The Year in Photos.” Many, as you can imagine, are images of pain and sadness. These are, of course, important to look at. But there are also a fair number that show less heavy moments in the news, the more lighthearted side of the last 12 months…
