K mom and blogger, Charlie Beswick, is no stranger to adversity. However, when an Instagram user recently reported a photo of Beswick and her son to the app's quality control team, and Instagram subsequently removed the photo citing "inappropriate content," she was shocked and outraged.
She wasn't the only one. News of the photo's removal quickly spread and soon, Instagram felt the full fury of the internet's wrath.
Beswick blogs about life with her twin sons, Oliver and Harry.
Her blog, Our Altered Life, follows the daily ups and downs of their lives which she describes as “less ordinary” because Harry was born with Goldenhar syndrome – he has no eye, eye socket, nostril, or ear on his left side.
Her blog focuses on the typical things that parents with atypical kids struggle with.
She writes honestly and openly about her challenges, her kids’ struggles, and what life is like with the added complications of physical differences. Harry also is nonverbal and autistic, and Beswick writes about those challenges as well.
Beswick is open and honest about all sorts of things.
Ultimately, she’s not really all that different from other parents. Her humor and openness have attracted a loyal fan base to her social media accounts and blog. It was because of this base that her Instagram situation quickly went viral.
When Beswick realized what had happened, she reached out to her formidable network for support.
They took action!
She sent a plea out to her followers and they took up her cause.
This has been retweeted 75K times! People were outraged by what was largely perceived as a cruel and callous move by Instagram.
