raveling anywhere these days can be ridiculously expensive. And traveling cross-country? Forget it!
That is, until now...
Expert traveler and blogger, Derek Low, wanted to find a way he could travel to as many of our great United States as he could while also spending as little money as possible.
After a bit of research, he cracked the code.
Low would travel across our great country via Amtrak train.
Low began his 3,400 mile journey boarding the historic California Zephyr in San Francisco.
Sitting in the train's comfy "Sightseer Lounge Car" seats, Low zipped from San Francisco to Chicago by way of Salt Lake City and Denver, enjoying breathtakingly gorgeous scenic views all route long.
The train’s “Sightseer Lounge Car” also offered Low his fellow passengers riveting narration from park rangers and historians as they passed through the magnificent Rocky Mountain and Sierra Nevada Mountain landscapes.
In Chicago, Low switched from the California Zephyr to the Lake Shore Limited, which would then take him all the way to New York.
And the ultimate kicker?
The entire cross-country trip only cost him $213!
He'd managed to get himself from one end of our beautiful country to the next by simply buying a single two-train ticket.
And this isn’t the only cross-country train trip Low’s made.
Back in 2011, Low spent a bit more ($429 to be exact) and bought himself a 15-day rail pass.
This rail pass allowed him the chance to stop and explore the cities he was passing through instead of merely witnessing their splendor from his cushy train seat.
After sharing the story of his beautiful and genius trip online, Low began getting requests from fans, hoping he'd help them plan their own versions of his journey.
Low got so many requests that he’s now offering fans a new travel-planning service.
For just $49, Low will plan a cross-country train travel trip perfectly tailored to your unique sightseeing goals.
Can you imagine seeing those purple mountains majesty for just over $200?
