Being a kid can be tough, and while recess is a break, it can also be a bit stressful.
That’s why the Willowgrove School in Saskatoon, Canada, has installed a new “buddy bench” in their playground.
How does it work?
The rules are pretty simple.
Kids can sit on the bench when they’d like to be invited to play instead of awkwardly standing around feeling alone.
When asked by CBC News how long it normally takes, one student said it only took about “a minute.”
Soon other kids saw him sitting there and asked him to join them on the playground.
The kids love the idea.
It provides them with a subtle way to let other kids know they need a friend without the embarrassment of having to ask around.
A student said that, before the benches, there were a lot of kids walking around by themselves.
But now? Now they have a lot more friends to play with…and a comfortable place to sit.
Check it out for yourself.
