Have you heard the news? Idris Elba, the celebrated actor, wicked cool DJ, and international heartthrob, is looking for a Valentine's Day date! Now, before you try asking me for his number, it's not just any date he's looking for; Elba is collaborating with Omaze on a fundraiser. Every $10 donation gets you one entry in the drawing to join Elba for champagne, chocolate, enough celebrity fantasy fodder to last you a lifetime, while proceeds from the contest benefit W.E. Can Lead, a nonprofit that supports female students in Africa.
Of course Elba knows that just securing a date doesn't mean he'll know what to do once the date starts, and he wants to "make our extraordinary night perfect." Swoon.
To that end, he’s enlisted the help of the most painfully honest and relentlessly helpful people on Earth: kids.
From the ridiculous to the insightful, these boys and girls had no shortage of romantic advice.
They start off by tackling the topic of what to do on a date.
One young lady advises, “You take the girl somewhere she likes…like a girl concert. Pay for everything. Agree with everything she says.”
As if that weren’t already spot-on advice, this boy and future partner to a very happy spouse adds, “It doesn’t matter what you want, it’s all about the girl.”
Other honest input came in on the subject of whether it's better to be a "bad boy" or a "good guy."
One kid warns Elba should be nice in case he wants to propose to his date someday, while this girl had a different warning.
“If you’re good, then you might have to wear glasses, suspenders, and ugly trousers.” Right or wrong, I bet it’s a possibility Elba hadn’t considered.
When Elba asked if it was a good idea to dance on a date, the kids indulged him by lighting up the impromptu conference room/stage with some pretty amazing dance moves.
"Don't do that. Don't," she says, which might be the wisest words of wisdom in the whole clip.
