llen DeGeneres is known for being generous and doing amazing things for everyday people, but this time she really went above and beyond for forty-one high school seniors.
The backstory is that earlier this month, Ellen and Walmart donated $25,000 to Summit Academy Charter School in Red Hook, Brooklyn.
That’s awesome enough, but it wasn’t enough for Ellen, who knew that in Red Hook only 4% of adults hold a college degree, and in 2016, 93% of the school’s graduating students went off to college.
Ellen invited it’s founder and principal back to her show on Thursday, and this time the entire 2017 senior class came along.
That's when she unleashed the news that each student received a four-year scholarship to any New York State school, totaling at about $1.6 million dollars.
Yes, $1.6 MILLION.
Their reactions said it all.
Tear. Can you really blame them for the tears?
Speaking of which, get your tissues ready.
This is a gift that will no doubt completely change their lives.
Incredible work, Ellen!
