When you win a gold medal in track and field, like Scotland’s Laura Muir did at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in the 1,500 meters, you get a victory lap.
Well, at least you're supposed to, but that almost didn't happen for her over the weekend.
Not once, not twice, but three times an official tried to block her way, citing “lack of time” as the excuse for cutting out the victory lap.
But let's remember that Muir is a pretty fast runner, so yeah, she found a way around it.
“I thought ‘it’s my first medal. I’m not going to lose out on my lap of honor. I’m going,'" Muir said. “I didn’t really say anything. I just thought, at the end of the day, she won’t be able to catch me!”
Nevertheless, she persisted and claimed more than one victory that afternoon!
