Chances are, if you spend much time online, you’ve come across the phrase, “manspreading.” The strange phenomenon of men spreading out their legs to take up space in public areas has been discussed as an example of gender-reinforced entitlement, drawing the ire of many. However, as these pics show, the “spreading” phenomenon isn’t just one perpetrated by men, raising some new questions.

But those who rely on public transportation find it to be a daily frustration that affects their quality of life. But there’s a catch…

An Imgur user named Mashimii posted pics that she too as well as photos she found that show women are just as capable and willing to hog space on trains, planes, and buses.

But the impact is the same, so the person posting asks the question, “Why are men being vilified for something that doesn’t seem to be gender-related at all?”

While the actual “spreading” seems to be done more by men, the act of taking two seats when only one is needed appears to be a genderless problem.

But this aspect of it, as it’s perpetrated by women, doesn’t seem to be discussed nearly as much. Even though, from these pics, it’s clearly a problem.

And in many instances, the frustration and problem could be solved by just asking someone to move. But people feel they shouldn’t have to.

But it’s certainly guilty of the “spreading” aspect of the problem that seems to rub so many the wrong way. The issue certainly exists, but doesn’t seem to be the cut-and-dry gender issue that many have made it out to be.
