A couple that has spent over 8 decades together has celebrated their eighty-first anniversary…

The celebration makes them Britain’s longest married couple, which is no mean feat. And they’ve recently shared the secret to their long-lasting relationship…

Ron Bond, 102, and wife Joyce, 100, tied the knot back in 1941 when Joyce was just nineteen and Ron was twenty-one, both admitting it was “love at first sight.”

Surprisingly, at first their friends didn’t think it would last between the pair, but it’s clear that they were simply made for eachother.

However, that doesn’t mean to say it was easy. The couple, who are great-great-grandparents, says that “looking after each other” and compromising is the key to a healthy and long-lived relationship.

They celebrated their remarkable anniversary with tea and cake at their flat located in a retirement village along with their 2 children, Eileen and Bill.

Joyce said: “We never expected to reach 81 years of marriage, we know we are very fortunate to have achieved this amazing goal.

“It feels excellent. There is no boss in our relationship, we both give and take.”

“Sometimes life is hard but we work through it together,” Ron admitted. “We look after each other too.”

Last year, the pair even received a letter from the Queen for their 80th anniversary…

The letter read: “How wonderful to learn of your eightieth wedding anniversary on 4th January 2021. I do hope you enjoy this marvelous occasion.”

Daughter Eileen said: “My parents are a truly inspiring couple, not only to my brother and I but to their grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

“It was said of them at the time of their wedding, it would not last long, how wrong did folks get that?

“You only have to spend time with them to know they love and care for each other, even after 81 years of being married.”

How amazing!
