An eleven-year-old boy jumped out of a moving school bus to escape his bullies, resulting in him being thrown onto the highway, new reports are claiming.
The incident occurred last week in Walton County, Georgia.
Video footage showed the boy, who was a student at Youth Middle School in Loganville at the time, being hit and dragged down the aisle of the bus, the boy's father, Dion Murphy, told FOX5 Atlanta.
"I recently saw a tape that a girl was hitting on him and there's another tape of him being dragged down the aisle."
Describing the incident, Dion detailed that "one student jumped in his face, he was pushing him against the window... When he fell, the other student took his shoe and in a desperate attempt to escape it, he jumped out the window."
He added: "I believe he was trying to escape the situation. At this moment he felt back was up against the wall."
"This generation's kids are even killing themselves because they're being bullied," Dion continued.
"It broke my heart because this is something that shouldn't have ever happened, way before this matter happened."
Dion claims that he had reported several other instances of bullying to the school in the past, and had even met with school leaders in March to address the issue further.
However, they had failed to take action.
"There are more tapes and that's why I'm so upset because the school neglected the bullying act and did not do anything about it. They took it as horse-play, but my son could have lost his life."
As a result, his son was forced to take drastic measures to escape his bullies...
And ended up with potentially life-threatening injuries as a result.
People have been reacting with horror upon hearing the details of his fall...
As the boy jumped from the window, he landed on top of a passing pickup truck before being thrown onto the highway.
He was then taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta with a broken elbow and a concussion.
A representative for Walton County Schools has since addressed the incident.
"Following a bus incident on May 5th, a Walton County School District student sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries. The other students and driver on the bus were not injured."
Their statement continued:
"School and district officials are aware of the bullying allegations made in connection with this event. The Walton County School District does not tolerate bullying and harassment of any kind."
They concluded by stressing that the incident is now being investigated...
Before adding that "any disciplinary issues that may arise will be handled appropriately at the school level."
The school has not commented on the disciplinary action it has or will take.
The eleven-year-old is no longer enrolled at Youth Middle School.
