More than $200,000 has been raised for a heroic Michigan man who rushed into his burning home last Saturday and rescued his 2 infant daughters, despite not being able to see what was in front of him.
A GoFundMe page for Ray Lucas' family has reached nearly $220,000 in just 5 days after Ray and his twin daughters Malaysia and Milan suffered severe burns, with their home being deemed unlivable.
His daughters are only eighteen months old, and asleep in the basement, prompting Lucas to rush to save his children.
The father, who is just twenty-three years old, left with his wife Shi'Ann Brown to run an errand before coming back to their home in flames fifteen minutes later. Their daughters were inside with relatives who were babysitting.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown but according to GoFundMe, the family has lost "everything" and Lucas is "worried because he cannot go back to work due to the extent of his injuries."
"The house was engulfed in smoke, I saw my mom and my niece were standing at the door [without the girls] and they were frantic," Lucas told Fox 2.
But despite the horrific experience, Lucas said that he knew he "had to get my babies out."
"You really couldn't see your hand in front of your face," he said. "I really only found my babies due to my memory, just knowing where they were and knowing how to get to them, just from having that same route."
Lucas said he was temporarily blind for 3 days, with burns on his face. His daughters spent a little while in the ICU following the fire that caused them to lose everything.
"They say it is a miracle that I can see."
"Please help us to Bless this young man, the babies, and their mother Shi'Ann so that they may secure a new home, and restore and furnish a new home environment for the family to live," the GoFundMe reads. "The family both need to cover medical expenses and refurbish their home."
"If anybody can support that'll be great," Lucas said.
Our wishes go out to Lucas' family and we are so glad they all made it out alive! Lucas is a true hero!
