On June 24, Jessica McLaughlin showed up for her shift at a 7-Eleven in Hollywood, California, expecting just another ordinary day.
But a verbal altercation reportedly broke out between Jessica and a female manager inside the store that morning.
According to the LAPD, that verbal dispute quickly escalated into a violent physical confrontation.
Jessica’s brother, Sean McLaughlin, later claimed the manager pulled Jessica’s hair and forced her to the ground.
Then, in a shocking move, the manager allegedly sat on Jessica’s body, pinning her down with her full weight.
“She held her down, sat on top of her, and didn’t let her breathe,” Sean wrote on a GoFundMe page.
Co-workers tried to intervene but were reportedly attacked by the manager as well, according to Sean.
After finally breaking free, Jessica reportedly collapsed inside the store and stopped breathing.
Several employees immediately began administering CPR as Jessica lay unconscious on the store floor.
While they tried to save her, Sean says the manager ran to the back room and attempted to delete security footage.
Moments later, she reportedly fled the store on a bicycle.

Police arrived at the 7-Eleven shortly after the incident and found Jessica unresponsive.
She was rushed to a local hospital where doctors discovered she had suffered brain damage from lack of oxygen.
Jessica was placed on life support as her family gathered by her bedside.
Her mother Jasmine, father Clancey, stepdad Albert, sister Linda, brother Anthony, boyfriend Adrian, and brother Sean all stayed with her.
“We were hoping, praying for some kind of miracle,” Sean wrote.
Doctors delivered devastating news: her brain had ceased functioning entirely.
After seeking second opinions and exhausting all options, the family made the decision to remove life support on July 2.

The LAPD confirmed it had obtained surveillance video of the incident but has declined to release it to the public.
