Christmas is usually thought of as a time for celebration – but one heartbreaking story has perfectly depicted the other side of the holiday…

A letter from a boy identified as Blake, aged 7, has the internet in a spin.

Blake was living in a temporary shelter with his mother in Texas, and for Christmas, all he wants from Santa is a good dad.

The boy’s mother explained she found the letter in her son’s backpack and felt the need to share it with the world.

“We had to leave our house. Dad was mad. We had to do all the chores. Dad got everything he wanted. Mom said it was time to leave and she would take us to a safer place where we don’t have to be scared,” Blake wrote.

“I also want a very very very good dad. Can you do that too?”

The letter has been shared thousands of times on Facebook and clearly touched the world, as it has also amassed many donations to the shelter, too.

“It highlights a lot of the feelings a lot of our clients feel — not just children,” explained Emily Hancock, vice president of development at SafeHaven, as per NBC.

“What’s awesome is, we’re having a lot of people open up about their experiences with domestic violence.”

“So for this post, where we intended to maybe get a couple likes or shares from our supporters, hopefully it can encourage someone in a similar situation to get the help they need.”

We hope this story (and others like it) has a happy ending this holiday season.
