Even though the vaccine is being distributed now, we must still take precuations.

And as for the results?

Well, they are looking great, with both vaccines treating the virus effectively.

Millions of people from all around the world have been waiting their turn to get the vaccine...

Currently, over twenty-seven million American citizens have received their first dose and 6 million are now fully vaccinated.

Of course, we're all well aware that the United States is the worst-affected country in the entire world...

With our tragic death toll surpassing a horrific milestone.

Last month, over seventy-thousand people died here in the U.S. due to COVID.

Sadly, we've even broken the daily record for virus-related deaths, with more than 5000 daily fatalities reported last week - shattering the previous records from December, which were approximately around the 3000 mark.

And with so many deaths, come so many heartbreaking stories from families who have lost loved ones.

And the most recent is about a 9-year-old little girl who passed away in her sleep after testing for the virus 3 days prior.

Makenzie Gongora from San Antonio, Texas, was complaining of a headache and stomach ache after school...

It was then discovered that she had a fever and was feeling extreme tiredness so the family took her for some tests.

According to a report by TODAY, the girl's mom took her to Brooke Army Medical Center.

And that's when she took 3 tests - strep throat, coronavirus, and flu. While 2/3 came back negative, the coronavirus one came back positive so the family started their isolation period, hoping Makenzie would make a full recovery.

Erica Gongora, her aunt, told the news outlet this:

"The doctors told my sister-in-law [to] take her home and to make her comfortable, to monitor her fever."

She continued, saying the doctors warned her of this:

"[They said] if it got over a certain point, or if there were any other major issues that occurred, to go ahead and bring her back to the hospital."

"There was no labored breathing or anything like that, at that point."

But on February 1st, after the little girl had gone to bed early, they noticed something was off.

"My sister-in-law later checked on her at night and realized that she was no longer breathing and could not find a pulse," Erica said.

The family also added that they weren't aware of any underlying conditions that Makenzie had, but she was a little bit "small" for her age.

After her death, the family pleaded for answers.

And now, Makenzie's body has been taken in for a full autopsy.

"We want to get answers as to why she was taken so quickly from us," one of her other aunties, Victoria Southworth said.

While they waited for the results of the examination, Victoria started a GoFundMe page in order to help with funeral costs.

In the caption, she wrote about the family's heartbreak.

"On February 2, 2021 our world stopped spinning when we lost our sweet girl, Makenzie Gongora. Makenzie was 9-years-old and in the 4th grade. Soft-spoken, tender-hearted, sweet, and loving to everyone she ever met."

The saddest part is that "Makenzie's mom, Kristle, is a front-line essential worker in the medical field."

"Makenzie's dad, Nathan, is in the Army and has been deployed overseas twice. Both Kristle and Nathan have given so much of themselves for others, this is our chance to give back to them," she wrote.

And in a matter of days, they have managed to raise over $73,000.

GoFundMe

The family have said that they are "floored" by the outpour of love and support.

A lot of people were left shocked and upset over the tragic news...

Facebook

Kind messages poured in.

Makenzie's aunts warned parents to keep an eye on their children...

GoFundMe

They said that even though the disease isn't necessarily known for causing death in children - when it does happen, the effects are devastating.

"[Makenzie's parents] followed all of the guidelines that they were given from the doctors, and the doctors as well are baffled [as to] why Makenzie was one of the children that were taken by Covid."

RIP Makenzie.

Let's just hope the vaccination process brings an end to this horrible pandemic and that her family finally gets some answers.
