A London-bound Air India plane carrying 242 people went down in flames near a medical college hostel in Ahmedabad, India.
The aircraft plummeted into the residential area just outside the airport, smashing buildings and setting off a deadly blaze.
It’s the most fatal crash in over ten years, and early footage showed devastation spread across multiple city blocks.
Locals reported a terrifying roar overhead followed by multiple loud bangs as the plane struck and exploded on impact.
Officials have confirmed 242 dead so far, including passengers and people on the ground.
Emergency teams rushed in, pulling charred remains from flaming wreckage while onlookers screamed and filmed.
As medics sifted through the injured, they noticed something strange: one man was found alive, limping, bloodied, and talking.
Among the ruins, one man stumbled out—dazed, covered in soot, and somehow, still breathing.
Survivor of plane crash identified.
The man was later identified as Ramesh Viswashkumar, 40, a British national traveling back to the UK with his brother.
Footage aired on Indian news shows a man limping down a street in a white t-shirt, face bruised and bleeding.
Crowds gathered around him in disbelief. When someone asked, “Where are the others?” he replied, “They’re all inside.”
Viswashkumar’s family in the UK confirmed to Reuters that he had survived and was recovering in a hospital.
Ajay Valgi, his cousin in Leicester, said he received a brief call. “He only said he was fine, nothing else.”
Ramesh’s brother, Ajay, was also on the flight but in another row. He hasn’t been found.
“We’re all upset,” said Valgi. “We’ve heard nothing about his brother. It’s unbearable.”
He lives in the UK with his wife and young son and had been visiting family in India before boarding the doomed flight.
Officials say the search continues. “There might be others alive among the injured,” Chaudhary said.
Viswashkumar’s survival debated.
Authorities scrambled to find out how Viswashkumar had survived the crash when so many others hadn’t.
Officers confirmed he was in seat 11A—right by an emergency exit—possibly the key detail that saved him.
“He was near the emergency exit and managed to escape by jumping out,” said senior officer Vidhi Chaudhary.
It’s still unclear whether he jumped before the plane made contact with the ground or moments after.
As rescue crews work through the carnage, Ramesh Viswashkumar is the only name not on the casualty list.

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Ramesh gave a chilling account of what it was like to wake up surrounded by death.
“I got up… there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran,” he said.
“The whole area was in pieces—plane parts everywhere. I just ran until someone helped me into an ambulance.”
Medics said he was trembling and barely responsive when they reached him, with injuries to his head and legs.
The man in the street footage bore an identical goatee, bruises, and shirt as photos released from the hospital.
Ramesh Viswashkumar’s escape still a mystery.
Investigators say his statement lines up with where his seat was found and what witnesses saw.
His seat—11A—is circled on a copy of his boarding pass shared online by Hindustan Times.
Crash investigators are examining whether the emergency door was opened mid-descent and if anyone else attempted to jump.
As of now, no one knows how he survived. But he did. And for now, Ramesh is the only one who made it out alive.
