Finally, fans can rest easy knowing that the third season of Bridgerton is on its way.
Bridgerton took the world by storm when it first premiered on December 25, 2020.
Giving the world something to talk about while locked inside during the COVID-19 pandemic, viewers all over the world instantly became obsessed with the series.
The show’s record-setting second season premiered two years later, on March 25, 2022.
The second installment surpassed season one in viewership, cementing Bridgerton as a franchise, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The series did so well, that it had already been renewed for a third and fourth season in April 2021, before the second even aired.
A spin-off series focused on the character of Queen Charlotte from Bridgerton, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, was released in May 2023.
Still, despite fans getting some content this year, everyone is desperate to know when the third season of the beloved show will make its way to Netflix.
While the first installment focused on Daphne Bridgerton, played by Phoebe Dynevor, the second season put the spotlight on her brother Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey.
The upcoming season will follow the fan-favorite love story of Penelope Featherington and the third eldest Bridgerton child and son, Colin.
Based on the fourth novel in Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series, the third season will air in two parts, according to Netflix and Shonda Rhimes’s production company, Shondaland.
The upcoming season is set to detail Penelope’s determination to “become a new woman with a new independence,” explained Coughlan when she spoke to Tudum about her role back in June.
“We cannot wait to take you along for the carriage ride,” she added at the time.
Netflix gave fans a first look at the upcoming season back in June, giving viewers a sneak peek at all of the drama that’s set to unfold.
Coughlan also told Tudum that her character “Penelope is going to become a woman in season 3.”
“This year is the year Penelope thought she was having last year, if that makes sense,” Nicola Coughlan told Shondaland.
“Because I think she thought that she and Colin were a thing and it was happening, and then she got a really rude awakening at the end,” she continued.
“I always say year one is ‘girl,’ year two is ‘not a girl, not yet a woman,’ and this year is ‘woman,’” Nicola explained. “So, she’s entering into a woman era this time.”
For Season 3, much of the cast is expected to get back together, including Adjoa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury), Harriet Cains (Philipa Featherington), Bessie Carter (Prudence Featherington), Martins Imhangbe (Will Mondrich), Jessica Madsen (Cressida Cowper), Emma Naomi (Alice Mondrich), Hugh Sachs (Brimsley), Polly Walker (Lady Portia Featherington), and the queen, Golda Rosheuvel.
At the end of Bridgerton’s second season, Penelope is left heartbroken at the Featherington Ball when she hears Colin tell a group of bachelors that he would never court her.
According to Netflix’s official synopsis, this causes Penelope to finally give up on her years-long crush on Colin as she enters Season 3.
Instead of giving up on love completely, Penelope wants to take a husband, and she eventually enlists the help of her unrequited love to do so.
“Lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly,” the synopsis reads.
“Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger,” the synopsis continues. “But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder.”
“Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season,” it continues.
“But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly,” the teaser states.
“Complicating matters for Penelope is her rift with Eloise, who has found a new friend in a very unlikely place, while Penelope’s growing presence in the ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret,” the synopsis concludes.
Bridgerton Season 3 will be split into two parts with four episodes each, making for eight episodes total.
Part one of the third season is set to hit Netflix on May 16, with part 2 arriving a month later on June 13.
