A Pet Parent’s Guide to a Happy Fur Baby

My four-legged friends are my whole heart. I would do anything to make them as happy as possible. And I would also do anything to make my life as easy as possible. Unfortunately, having animals in your home and having an easy life don’t always go hand-in-hand. I’ve found that there are a few things I’ve got to have around my house to keep me sane and to ensure I get to spend as much time as possible with my furry babies.

This is a list of some of my favorite products to keep around the house. This hair remover gives me extra time to play with my pups instead of cleaning up the absolute hamsters of fur they leave around the house. My pups, and cats, love this car cover because they can ride around with us whenever they want (as long as we don’t say the “v” word, that is). And these litter catching mats are an absolute life-saver!

Make Quick Work of Ever-Present Hair

  via Amazon

If felting is your thing, I’m sure pet hair is awesome to you, but for the rest of us, it’s a nuisance that takes forever to clean, which is why this roller is my absolute favorite gadget — it gets the hair up quickly so you can get back to infinite pet cuddles.

Foil Your Cat’s Evil Plans

  via Amazon

We all know cats could take over the world if they wanted to, right? That’s just a fact. Fortunately for us, the only thing they’re actually interested in is ruining our furniture (and eating our plants). These furniture guards keep those catastrophic cat claws out of your furniture so you don’t have to replace it with your air filters; seasonally.

Accidents Happen, But You Don’t Have to Let Them Linger

  via Amazon

This is not a Cranberries song. You do not have to let odor linger. Pets can’t help that they have accidents. Sometimes they can and they’re punishing us because we’ve left them, but for the most part; it’s an accident! When it happens, Angry Orange is the best way to clean it up and give that lingering odor the boot.

Keep Litter Where It Belongs

  via Amazon

Litter: It shows up in my bed, I track it around, my dogs love to eat it (TMI, but you’re a pet person, you get it). While I’ve yet to find a foolproof way to keep the litter out of my dogs’ bellies, I have discovered that these litter mats are the best way to keep it from traveling throughout my house.

Pet Hair Has No Place in Your Prius

  via Amazon

Okay, I only said “Prius” for alliterative purposes, but it really has no place in any car. This seat cover lets you pack up your pets and easily clean up their shed afterwards. This cover works for most smaller-sized cars and for any size pet. Except for a dragon. It would not fit a dragon.

Make Post-Potty Clean-up a Little Easier

  via Amazon

I don’t know why this guy is smiling, cleaning poop is nothing to smile about. But, I guess he’s smiling because he’s happy it’s done. Or maybe he’s happy he can finally play with his dog now. This pooper scooper is a great and efficient way to get your yard poop-free quickly so you can get to the fun part.

Give Your Pets a Cushy Place to Lay

  via Amazon

My cats and dogs do not get along like this, but maybe if I bought them this bed they would. Who can say? I’ve tried a plethora of pet beds in the past, but this is the only one I’ve found that looks like it would be perfect for cats and dogs alike.

Easy-in, Easy-Out Litter Box

  via Amazon

My cats don’t like to be watched while they go, I’ve learned this. But while we had this stainless steel box I loved it, because it was a breeze to clean! Sadly, we had to give this one away so my prima donna cats could go without eyes on them. I mourn its loss.

Make Bath Time So Much Easier

  via Amazon

Seriously. It. Is. A. Game. Changer. Y’all have got to try this. My oldest pup is water-averse and we can’t get her in a bath for anything. But once we tried this suction pad, it all changed. We put peanut butter on this bad boy and let her go to town while we get her good and shiny.

Keep Calm and Chew On

  via Amazon

Is “Keep Calm” still a thing? I feel like it’s not, but I’ve never been a trend-chaser! These chews are designed to help your furry friends gain a little calm during tumultuous times like a big move, a thunderstorm, or a visit to the scariest of places; the V-E-T. Yikes!

Get Your Pup Adventure Ready

  via Amazon

It’s not easy to take your four-legged friends on your adventures. You’ve got to get travel water holders, a strong leash, and a great harness. Fortunately, you’ve now got at least one of those things in the bag. We love this strong and durable harness that’s great for all sorts of adventures and for medium-sized pups.

Make Training a Snap

  via Amazon

Or maybe a “shock” would have been more apt. This training collar allows you to work with your pup to ease them into the life of shock collars. We love this one because it’s not too harsh, but it has really helped my stubborn, impossible-to-contain dog learn to stay in the fence and not chase every squirrel in the world.

Keep Their Joints Moving and Grooving

  via Amazon

It’s hard to watch our sweet pets get old. I know there’s nothing as heartbreaking in the world to me. But they will get old, and all we can do is make them as healthy and happy as possible. I love using these chews for my senior doggo; it’s great for keeping her hips and joints agile and happy.

A Harness for the Urban Dog

  via Amazon

I’m not sure what qualifies a dog as being “urban,” but I imagine it’s determined by how much time they spend in cities. This harness is designed to keep your pup secure and safe during your city walks and comes with a handle you can grab for a little extra security on metro rides or street crossings.

Make Your Pets Work for It

  via Amazon

There’s no body-shaming here! But some pets maybe need to shed a few pounds. If that’s the case, this snuffle mat is an awesome tool to make them work a little harder for their food. The longer they take, the more they realize they’re not hungry anymore, and the less they eat. Plus, it’s fun to watch them snuffle around.

This Sturdy Leash

  via Amazon

I love click leashes. They’re just about the only thing I can use with my high-anxiety pup; the others dig into my skin when she goes off after a squirrel. This leash has plenty of room for your pup to roam around on but is super strong so you can keep control when you need to.

Don’t Let Mats Get You Down

  via Amazon

One of my dogs is a gorgeous golden retriever mix with long, curly hair. Lovely! Until he gets a little wet. And then all the mats make themselves known. This comb is my favorite tool to use when I give him his weekly, anti-mat brush down. It pulls them right out without causing him any pain!

Manage the Fur Mess with This Broom

  via Amazon

I think this is really more of a rake, honestly, but it has bristles like a broom. And that’s a good thing! Those bristles really help to catch the hair and keep it all moving in one direction. It’s great for a post-grooming clean of the house.

This Lint Roller Is Like A Magic Hair Eraser

  via Amazon
DAP

Dogs are the head of our household. It’s their home and we’re just living in it. We feed them, clean up after them, and compliment them every 5 seconds. Still, the worst is the shedding. There is dog hair EVERYWHERE! I’d go mad if it weren’t for this 5-pack of extra sticky lint rollers I keep stashed in the laundry room. You can order them in a 6-pack of 90 or 70 sheets too, but I just subscribe and save because I run out constantly.

Cover More Space with This Car Mat

  via Amazon

This one still can’t hold a dragon, I’m sorry! But it can hold multiple dogs and cover quite a bit of area. This is the mat I use because I like to fold the seats down in my SUV and give my babies as much wiggle room as possible — keeps them from jumping up front with me.

This is the Ultimate Bowl Set

  via Amazon

It’s not easy to keep water and food bowls still. Your pets tend to chase around those last bites and send the bowls sliding across the floor, making messes as they go. This fully dish washable (woohoo!) set comes with an awesome silicone mat to keep those bowls right where you want them, mess-free!

A Tiny Cave for Your Tiny Babies

  via Amazon

This is an awesome bed because it works for cats, rats, hamsters, ferrets, bunnies, and more! You can fill it with soft bedding if you’d like, or leave it as-is and it creates a safe and comfy little cave for your pet babies to burrow down inside of.

Give Them Something to Chew On

  via Amazon

Something that’s not your shoes, that is. These super chewers are a great option for any pet that might be a little too destructive. There’s no shame in that! But it’s definitely not the easiest thing to deal with. These toys will keep them entertained for weeks, if not longer!

Play the Best Dang Game of Tug-O-War

  via Amazon

Tug-o-war is not the best game for puppies, it teaches them to pull and shake instead of giving you the thing they’ve got, but it’s so much fun to play with older dogs! These rope toys are great for ultimate tug-o-war or just for those pets that prefer something a little softer to chew on.

XL Potty for XL Pets

  via Amazon

Maybe your cat’s a little bigger than the average cat. Or maybe you’ve got multiple cats! Either way, this XL litter box ensures you’ve got room for all of your cat-pottying needs. Plus, stainless steel is an absolute dream to clean and won’t rust up on you.

Handle the Shed

  via Amazon

Hairy dogs are so cute, but they’re also so hairy! And shed is probably the least fun to deal with. Fortunately, this de-shedding brush exists. You can comb over your hairy pup and come away with easy-to-clean clumps of hair. It cuts back on the shed you’ve got to clean out of the sofa cushions later.

Keep an Eye Out for Mess

  via Amazon

It’s not always easy to find messes if they’ve been sitting for a while, which is why I love this flashlight. It’s ultraviolet for seeking out any left-to-sit messes. You want to deal with those as soon as you can so you can get any lingering odors out and get your house smelling fresh again.

Give Your Dog Some Manners

  via Amazon

This bell can be used to train your dog to ask to go outside. It won’t actually give them manners, they may still jump up or lick your face, but it’s a great start to getting them there. They just put their nose or a paw on this and you hear a bell that tells you it’s time to go!

Get Your Dog Looking Fresh and Clean

  via Amazon

Groomers aren’t cheap, let me tell you (you probably already know!), but you can’t just groom your animals with whatever you have lying about. This grooming kit is a fraction of your grooming bill and comes with all you need to give your furry friends a fresh cut right from home.

Handle the Mess on the Go

  via Amazon

It’s never fun to talk about your pups’ bathroom habits, but it’s even less fun to clean them. These eco-friendly, poop bags are lavender-scented to cover the other scent and make it a little less unpleasant to pick up after your pet; an essential act that everyone appreciates!

Make Accidents Easier to Handle

  via Amazon

Accidents happen, that’s unavoidable with pets, but they don’t have to be hard to clean. These pee pads are awesome for spreading around any potential accident zone. Pets go on them, you fold them up and toss them in the trash. No muss, no fuss!

Keep Your Pets Entertained and Fed All at Once

  via Amazon

Pets need entertainment too, believe it or not! I love watching my younger pup play with this puzzle to figure out just how to get to his food. It keeps him entertained and he can have a tasty meal or snack at the same time!

Care for Teenie Teeth

  via Amazon

I love Greenies! They keep my pet’s breath smelling fresh, which is a true feat given what my pups tend to get into and eat. These are specifically formulated for smaller pets, so make sure to keep an eye on the weight before you buy!

This Moving Water Bowl Is the Bomb

  via Amazon

Do you have a fancy pet who refuses to drink still water? Because I do. She hates still water so much that she got two UTIs because she refused to drink the water we had. Now we’ve got this awesome moving water bowl and she drinks as much as she wants whenever she wants. Or plays with it. Either way.

High Quality Litter for High Quality Cats

  via Amazon

Litter quality matters. Bad litter makes it almost impossible to scoop the boxes and keep them clean. Plus, bad littler may not keep the smell at bay and then you’re in a real mess. This litter is excellent quality and it’s good for your cat and good for your nose.

Tuck Your Furry Friend In

  via Amazon

There’s nothing cuter than when your pet is lying under a blanket like they’re a tiny human. This bed has a little blanket attached so you can tuck your furry baby up at the end of the night. Or in the middle of the day for their nap time. Or their seventh nap time.

Give Your Cats Fun for Days

  via Amazon

An entertained cat is a cat that stays out of things and isn’t scratching furniture or knocking over glasses. This entertainment center gives them a light to chase, a feathered doodad to play with, and comes on sturdy legs so they won’t knock it over in their excitement.

Give Them the Goods

  via Amazon

Cats love the catnip. I’m not really sure what catnip is, but cats seem to know. I’ve got this gadget hanging up on my wall, right at cat level, for my cats to lick and bliss out with. It gives me a little peace and quiet… For about five minutes. But I’ll take it!
