Thanks to the technological advances in IVF, couples who can’t conceive naturally, and who would once have had to admit defeat, can now have families of their own.

But by far the most talked-about is surrogacy.

Now, what exactly is surrogacy?

Surrogacy is an agreement wherein a woman agrees to carry and birth a baby for another person or couple.

And, from there, the baby will grow and be born from this other woman, rather than its biological mother.

Obviously, agreeing to become a surrogate for someone is a huge commitment…

A surrogate will have to put her body through the journey of pregnancy (and the trauma of labor, of course) for someone else’s happiness and fulfillment… So, it isn’t a decision to be taken lightly.

Or they will select a volunteer, who will be paid a generous amount for their commitment.

Breanna Lockwood and her husband, Aaron, have been trying to have a baby since they got married back in 2016.

Their attempts to conceive have proved to be more difficult than they expected.

“I kind of always thought it was going to happen really quickly,” Breanna told Oprah Magazine. “You spend your whole life preventing – and when you stop preventing, it doesn’t happen right away.”

Breanna explained: “I really struggled with talking about it; it put a strain on family and friends and our marriage. It’s something that really rocks someone’s world.”

This was when the Lockwoods knew they would never carry their own child.

However, the price tag for this final option was close to $100,000 for the Lockwoods, which was simply undoable.

Fifty-one-year-old Julie Loving went above and beyond and offered to carry and birth her own grandchild. On her decision, Julie said: “I kind of felt like I went through this with her from the beginning. I felt all of her grief and her struggle. I knew that I was healthy as a fifty-one-year-old, and I knew I could do this for her, I took good care of myself. I actually don’t feel fifty, I feel thirty!”

“My mom wants to be a grandma just as much as I want to be a mom, so she’s doing everything she can,” Breanna told Good Morning America.

But Julie persisted. “I started to talk to her about it. She was not on board and thought I was crazy, but I just kept pursuing it,” Julie explained. “I’ve run nineteen marathons and done many triathlons. I felt like health-wise I could do it and I had really easy pregnancies with my two kids.”

But, when Julie passed a series of tests – cholesterol, psychology tests, panels of bloodwork, and more – he and Breanna both warmed up to the idea.

And she is now pregnant with their child and her grandchild!

So Breanna decided now was the time to go public with their news. Taking to Instagram, she wrote: “Made with a lot of love, and a little bit of science… Baby Lockwood will be brought into this world via GESTATIONAL CARRIER, and this little miracle’s carrier is quite a special one. MY MOM. My mom will be carrying and delivering our baby!” ⠀

Breanna continued: “Sharing this adventure with my mom has been the most unique and amazing experience. Surrogacy is truly the most selfless gift. She is the pure example of “you would do anything for your kids”, and if I can even be half of the mother she is, I know I’m doing something right…”

The trio recently found out that they will be having a baby girl!
