Abigail Breslin, known for her role in Little Miss Sunshine, has opened up about predators in Hollywood.
Accusing a past co-star of aggressive and demining on-set behavior.
Read on for me …
We all know about Harvey Weinstein.
But it turns out that the problem runs deeper than just one man.
It seems that predatory men are an epidemic everywhere …
But particularly in the “glamorous” world of acting.
Recently, Jessica Alba was one of the latest in a string of celebrities opening up about the issue.
She spoke to Chris Wallace about growing up in an industry of “predators.”
Speaking on “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?”, Alba got candid.
She claimed she had to alter her “energy” to counteract the attention on her.
Alba explained she knew she was “objectified” in her early career.
After all, she was cast in her early roles as something of a s*x symbol!
Alba explained she knew she was there to “sell” a product.
Claiming she “understood” her role at the time.
“I guess I understood that I needed to help sell the product,” she told the host.
“And they sell it how they do, so I understood it as a business decision and a strategy.
“And so I was able to distance myself from it.
“But I guess, you know, you can’t change other people’s minds about what they may or may not think of you.”
“I don’t think that there’s anything wrong with owning your sexuality,” she continued.
“I just frankly was definitely not that person.
“I was very nervous about all of that, and I was quite uncomfortable in my own skin.”
Alba then explained her strategies for avoiding unwanted attention.
Including suppressing her own femininity.
“It wasn’t until I became a mom that I really started to even see myself as a woman or a sexual being or someone who owned her power and her femininity,” the actor went on.
She claims she relied on using masculine energy to protect herself.
“At that time, I felt like I was very much having to put up this armor of masculinity and masculine energy so I wouldn’t, you know, be preyed on because there were a lot of predators in Hollywood from age 12 to 26.”
“I was a warrior. I put up that energy.”
“I was really tough, man. I curse like a sailor and I think I tried to make myself as unavailable as possible so that I wouldn’t be taken advantage of.”
Alba credits this toxic environment as the reason she chose to step back from acting.
“I think at the time, I felt a bit tapped out with entertainment, with where it was at.
“It was pre-#MeToo movement and I think this is a very different Hollywood today than it was 14 years ago,” Alba told Wallace.
“I just took a step back and kind of let it do its thing.
“Entertainment was really like — the town was very different.”
And now, Abigail Breslin has offered her views on the issue.
Her accusations about her co-star Aaron Eckhart have just come to light.
After the Classified production company launched a lawsuit against Breslin for breach of contract.
Breslin accused Eckhart of displaying “aggressive, demeaning, and unprofessional behavior.”
And the production company has rebutted that following these claims, the “entire production almost ground to a halt.”
Writing to the SAG-AFRA union, Breslin also claimed Eckhart “placed her at various times in peril.”
And insisted she no longer had to work alone with Eckhart.
“Costly accommodations had to be made by the production to accommodate Breslin’s demands or else [she] would not continue to perform her contractual obligations,” the court documents read.
They also claim Breslin’s claims are “wild, hysterical and imaginary.”
Breslin’s rep told Rolling Stone in a statement that she is “not aware of any action filed against her” nor has she been “served with any legal notice.”
Her spokesperson added: “Ms. Breslin categorically denies all contended allegations and unequivocally stands by her statement, which she provided confidentially to SAG.”
