AI Creates What ‘Average Person’ Looks Like in Each US State and Sparks Outrage

Someone has used AI to create what people from different U.S. states look like, and the results have received a mixed response online.

“So AI gets to judge what people are worth?, This is what your government thinks is appropriate. Scary,” one social media user wrote.

“As a Texan, I’m offended. That guy should be at least 40 lbs heavier, be carrying at least 2 guns, and there should be a highway with some car wrecks in the background,” a second commented.

However, another said: “As a non-American, I can say this is 100% accurate. But likely I’d add 25% body fat.”

Recently individuals have truly put the technology to the test to see what inventions it can produce.

It has been used to bring The Simpsons and South Park characters to life…

And given us a glimpse at what our favorite fantasy dishes would look like.

But recently, it has been used to show what ‘the average person’ looks like in each state of America.

Elements such as fashion trends, and regional traditions, as well as stereotypes have motivated AI when it came to constructing representations of the “average” individual.

The set of AI-generated photos was published on the Reddit thread r/midjourney by a Redditor.

They tagged the post: “the most stereotypical person in [state name].”

The states listed in the caption, which included Texas, California, Colorado, Florida, Oregon, and Maine, most likely represented the instructions they gave the AI programme before letting it do its thing.

And the results are crazy.

In Texas, we begin with a man sporting ‘cowboy’ gear, featuring a big cowboy hat, blue pants, large buckle, and a brown shirt.

In California, where the AI human has long hair that is tousled in the wind, large sunglasses, and a floral shirt, everything is about florals.

In contrast, Colorado shows a woman sitting on what appears to be a hilltop covered in marijuana plants.

Before heading to Oregon, where we see a woman with short blue hair, there’s Florida, where a man with a long white beard sits on a road wearing blue shorts, an oversized pink shirt, and a cap.

Then we arrive in Maine, where an AI man is wearing a hat with a lobster on it, as that’s what the city is known for.

After being posted online, the AI-generated photographs have received a range of reactions. One indignant Reddit member said the original poster “clearly used unflattering prompts for the red states.”

While another said: “Hi. Maine here. Can you not put dead lobsters all over everything? K thx.”

“Florida Man is formless, ageless. Sometimes he is an ornery old man, sometimes he is young, wild and reckless. Sometimes he looks too old to be young and too young to be old, aged by hard drugs and sun exposure,” a third wrote.

“As a Mainer, the result is crap, looks more like a tourist to Maine than a resident of Maine,” another said.
