After an estimated due date of Christmas, Kelsey was induced at 39 weeks following 30 hours of labor. Little did she know that her twin girls had their own plans.
On Tuesday, at 7:49 pm, Roxi Layla made her grand entrance, weighing over seven pounds. But the surprises didn’t end there.
Just 12 hours later, on Wednesday at 6:09 am, Rebel Laken joined her sister, also weighing over seven pounds. The Hatcher family was now complete with five children under the age of eight.
Two Wombs, Two Miracles: The Unique Advantage
One might wonder how two babies in two uteruses could develop without complications. The answer lies in the unique anatomy of Kelsey’s condition.
With each uterus having its own womb, sac, placenta, and umbilical cord, the twins had the luxury of extra space to grow and develop.

Shweta Patel, the obstetrician-gynecologist who cared for Kelsey at UAB’s Women & Infants Center, had previously been her doctor during her third pregnancy.
But this time, the situation was unprecedented.
With the help of UAB experts in high-risk obstetrics, Patel ensured that both Kelsey and her babies received the best possible care.
A Christmas Miracle and a Holiday Homecoming
While Kelsey and her husband Caleb are overjoyed by the arrival of their twin girls, they are equally grateful for the timing.
The babies’ early arrival ensured that the entire family can celebrate the holidays together at home.
After being discharged from the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s maternity unit, they are now ready to create lasting memories and enjoy the festive season.
“Our miracle babies were born! They decided they were rare enough statistically that they should just go ahead and have their own birthdays too,” Kelsey shared on social media.
“I can’t wait to share the entire birth story with you guys! While we are all home now, we will take the time to bond, recover, and enjoy the holidays.”
A One-in-a-Million Phenomenon
Kelsey’s journey of becoming pregnant in each of her two uteruses is truly a one-in-a-million phenomenon.
Prior to her incredible story, the last widely known case occurred in Bangladesh in 2019 when Arifa Sultana gave birth to healthy babies 26 days apart.
