On November 8th, the world lost a legend.
When news emerged that the iconic television host, Alex Trebek, had tragically died at the age of 80 after losing his battle with pancreatic cancer.
Trebek confirmed his battle with Stage Four Pancreatic Cancer back in 2019.
Speaking at the time, Trebek said:
Just like 50,000 other people in the United States each year, this week, I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Now, normally, the prognosis for this is not very encouraging, but I’m going to fight this, and I’m going to keep working, and with the love and support of my family and friends and with the help of your prayers also, I plan to beat the low survival rates statistics for this disease.
And after a brave fight, in November 2020, he passed away peacefully at his home.
Although the US lost a nationwide father figure, Trebek at least had the comfort of a peaceful death surrounded by family and close friends.
However, despite his death, just hours ago news emerged that Trebek had won an award posthumously.
The late Alex Trebek was honored with one more Daytime Emmy Award marking the Jeopardy! vet’s third consecutive win for Outstanding Game Show host and his eighth overall.
Trebek’s son and daughter, Matt and Emily, gratefully accepted the award on his behalf.
We are so honored to accept this award on behalf of our dad. For as long as we can remember, he was always so proud to be a part of Jeopardy, to work on a show that was based on knowledge, risk, and that challenged people how to think. He loved every bit of it.
His daughter, Emily, added:
Over the past 37 years, the show became a second family. He was always excited to go to work, even during his battle with cancer. He was so fortunate that he was able to do what he loved, and we know he not once took it for granted. On behalf of our family, we thank you so much.
Well deserved Alex.
Although Trebek is no longer with us, this award would appear to be the perfect tribute to the man, the television host, the father, and all round legend that Alex Trebek was. And that’s why we love him.
He set a perfect example to millions across the globe – he will not be forgotten.
Rest in peace Alex.
