Alicia, forty-three, has received an awful lot of backlash this week after she admitted to a rather peculiar parenting move. But first, let’s start from the beginning.

Most of us will recognize Alicia from the hit ’90s chick-flick, Clueless.

Aged only eighteen, the actress found her big break with the movie, where she played the role of shallow, rich, yet kind-hearted Cher.

And, to this day, it still remains as one of the most iconic and well-known chick-flicks from the 1990s.

Which she admits, now, was a lot to deal with as a young woman.

Speaking to The Guardian earlier this year, Alicia recalled, “I was so overwhelmed by being famous because I was such a young girl and it was never really my intention.”

“It was really just extreme how I was being talked to and talked about,” she says. “I think I just got really turned off by it.”

And, in a Rolling Stone interview at the time, she noted, “they say there’s a young Hollywood out there, but I’m not part of it”

Following on from her Clueless success, the actress embarked upon a number of other high profile projects…

And, at the height of her fame, she was handed a rare multimillion-dollar, 3-year first-look deal by Columbia with her production company attached. For a woman of such a young age, this was staggering.

“I stopped loving acting for a very long time,” she admitted, adding that it was a role in a David Mamet play that reinvigorated her. “My body was just like, this is what I’m meant to do, I love it so much, I need to find a way to do both, to be able to be an actress and be an activist at the same time so that’s what I did.”

Though she still performs on and off-screen, Alicia’s passions lay within veganism and animal rights, and writing.

She regularly uses her Instagram account to remind her followers of the cruelty involved with the meat industry and has even starred in many ads and campaigns for the animal rights group, PETA.

She is now a devoted parent.

Though she separated from his father, Christopher Jarecki, in 2018, the pair still co-parent together. “We ask Bear where he wants to be. But then I started to wonder if that was too much pressure.” She explained on Today last month. “So, I checked in with him and he said, ‘I love that I get to decide.’ We both have different perks!”

Alicia has faced a considerable amount of backlash about her parenting decisions throughout the years.

The actress has admitted that Bear lives off a vegan diet and has even said that she never has to discipline him because of it. As most of you will know, the decision to raise a child on a vegan diet is a controversial one, with many health specialists saying it can cause long term damage to their developing bodies.

On his behavior, she explained, “We just can talk like that because he’s not feeling crazy. When [kids] feel bad, when they eat unhealthy food and they don’t feel good, then they don’t act good. Same as us.”

She then comes out with another revelation about his upbringing.

She revealed that she and Bear still bathe together.

And this included activities such as dancing and bouncing on a trampoline and jumping rope.

“My son and I take baths together, and when he’s not with me, I take a bath and that really feels nourishing and comforting,” the actress told The New York Times.

Of course, Alicia has received a ton of backlash for her decision.

On Facebook user wrote, “getting a shower with them at that age is not appropriate or acceptable especially a mother with a son or a father with a daughter,” while another went as far to say, “I recommend that she seek out a professional to help her out with this issue, not only for herself, but for her child’s sanity as well.”

Many think that Bear is too old to still be bathing with his mom…

“No. My son is also 9 and while there’s nothing wrong with the body, there is a need for privacy.”
