Calls for boycotting Heard were sparked after Aquaman director, James Wan, announced the title for the sequel.
Announcing the news on Instagram, Wan revealed the sequel would be titled Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom.
The calls to boycott Heard come in relation to her ongoing legal battle with ex-husband, Johnny Depp.
Depp has filed a defamation lawsuit against Heard after she alleged she was a victim of domestic abuse.
Following Wan’s announcement, Heard’s name began trending on Twitter alongside the hashtags “BoycottAquaman2” and “JusticeForJohnnyDepp.”
A Change.org petition to fire Heard from her role as Mera in the DC franchise series also emerged.
It has gained more than 1.8 million signatures to date.
The petition claims that Heard “has been exposed as a domestic abuser” who has “systematically crusaded to ruin Depp in Hollywood” since their divorce.
“As Amber Heard is a known and proven domestic abuser, Warner Brothers and DC Entertainment should and must remove Heard from their Aquaman 2 film project. They must not ignore the suffering of Heard’s victims, and must not glamorize a domestic abuser,” it reads.
“Men are victims of domestic abuse, just like women. This must be recognized, and action must be taken to prevent a known abuser from being celebrated within the entertainment industry.”
Confirmation of Heard’s involvement in the film is not yet known, however, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly last year, the actress addressed the rumors that she wouldn’t be returning.
“I’m super excited about the amount of fan love and the amount of fan appreciation that Aquaman has acquired and that it has garnered so much excitement for Aquaman and Mera that it means we’ll be coming back. I’m so excited to film that,” Heard said.
“Paid rumors and paid campaigns on social media don’t dictate because they have no basis in reality,” she added, “Only the fans actually made Aquaman and Aquaman 2 happen. I’m excited to get started next year.”
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is set to be released in December 2022.
But the latest news?
Is that Heard is now the subject to an FBI backed probe following perjury allegations.
The latest investigation is down to Heard and Depp’s dog smuggling allegation.
The pair apologised for their actions at the time, with Heard given a one-month good behaviour bond with no conviction recorded. However the case has now resurfaced after claims Heard’s former manager told her to lie under oath.
