The Black Lives Matter movement has never before been so prominent.

Let's start from the beginning.

On Monday, May 25th, a defenseless black man was killed while in a police restraint.

George Floyd was arrested and forced to the ground...

Where former police officer, Derek Chauvin, proceeded to kneel on his neck, while 3 other officers knelt on his back.

Footage of George's "arrest" quickly circulated on social media...

And, in the highly distressing scenes, he could be heard begging with the officers to release him and repeatedly saying "Please, please... I can't breathe."

After nearly ten minutes, George was completely unresponsive.

An ambulance arrived and took the unconscious man to hospital but, devastatingly, he was pronounced dead upon arrival. He was only forty-six years old.

This kind of police brutality has been happening for centuries now...

And George's death has sparked an outrage like never before.

Thousands upon thousands of people have been taking to the streets in protest...

And they are all marching for one thing: For the blatant racism and injustice in this country to be brought to an end.

Things were quick to turn violent.

Protesters became interweaved with rioters and, as they continue to clash with police, the scenes unfolding across our country have been becoming steadily more violent.

It's a truly terrifying time.

But change needs to happen and, at the moment, this seems like the only way to make it happen.

And, remarkably, they seem to be working.

Thanks to these riots, the Black Lives Matter movement is dominating global headlines, and it has completely taken over social media.

This is only the beginning.

And it's so important that we continue to speak out and use our voices.

However, not everyone has been so supportive of the movement.

While the majority of American’s have been in favor of the protests, there is a small minority who have been speaking out against them or not taking the movement seriously.

A lot of these people are coming from far-right groups...

So most of us aren’t too shocked.

So many people are using phrases like "White Lives Matter" or "All Lives Matter."

They have tried to argue that this promotes equality, with the people behind it liking to argue that everyone has it just as hard as black people do.

What's so hard to understand?

Using phrases like "All Lives Matter" is just another way of criticizing the BLM movement.

And news stories just keep popping up of ignorant people mocking the movement.

The latest, however, is one of the most shocking.

City Councilman Guy Phillips has found himself at the center of backlash this week.

The Arizona councilman went so far as to post a flyer online advertising an anti-mask rally titled “Unmask Us!" following a decision made by Republican Scottsdale Mayor Jim Lane requiring people to wear masks in public.

At the rally, he made some extremely insensitive comments.

Phillips began his remarks by screaming “I can’t breathe" twice - the last words of George Floyd and Eric Garner that have been mirrored in protests across the globe for the BLM movement.

Phillips then ripped off his mask and threw it to the ground.

And since the clip of his stunt reached twitter, people have been calling for him to be fired.

People were furious.

"I live in Scottsdale. Guy Phillips, you’re a vile human. And all these residents in this heat, in a pandemic, amidst the BLM movement, at a time to make positive change, THIS is what you protest? THIS is what moves your soul? Gross. All of you."

People couldn't believe what they had watched...

"This racist human garbage must resign.

His actions are completely offensive.

And make a mockery of the BLM movement.
