Being married to the notorious Donald Trump must be hard enough, but imagine standing by his side while he single-handedly shook the country to its core...

And we can't forget the fact that the first lady wasn't exactly given a warm welcome by the public when she moved into the White House.

And she's faced nothing but criticism and negativity over the last 4 years while her husband was president.

But she's been with him since 1998.

Melania, who is from Slovenia, was working as a model and businesswoman when she met Donald at a party. He was in the process of divorcing his second wife, Marla Maples, and he didn't waste any time in asking Melania out.

The pair were dating for around 6 years when they became engaged in 2004...

And they tied the knot in 2005 at a lavish ceremony at the Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea in Palm Beach, Florida, followed by a reception in the ballroom at Donald's Mar-a-Lago estate.

Donald already had 4 children from his first 2 marriages...

And in 2006, his first and only child with Melania was born - Barron William Trump.

The pair seemed to have a happy marriage...

And there's no doubt that they both enjoy the finer things in life! But this was all to change in 2016...

Donald Trump began his presidential campaign...

And much to the shock of the entire world, he was elected as the forty-fifth president of the United States in January 2017 - instantly making Melania the first lady.

From the get-go, Melania was clearly struggling to find her feet as the first lady...

And she was very quickly cast aside by her husband's brash ideas as president.

And of course, it didn't take long for the people of America to start criticizing her role as first lady.

In comparison to former first lady's such as Michelle Obama, Melania was slammed for not sharing the same passion and charisma; and it was clear that as Donald Trump's wife, she never thought she'd be in this position.

Cracks between Melania and Donald soon started showing following his inauguration.

The couple have rarely been seen showing signs of affection toward one another over the last 4 years, and the most recent sign was from the 2020 presidential campaign when Melania visibly snatched her hand away from her husband.

Ouch.

And since Donald lost his presidential campaign to Democrat Joe Biden in November...

Rumors have been rife that the minute he isn't president in January 2021, Melania will be seeking a divorce.

Although she has strongly denied these rumors...

It's clear that the former model isn't happy, whether that's with her marriage or the fact that she's been forced into such an important role as the country's first lady.

Nevertheless, Melania has been continuing her duties as the first lady right up until now...

And her most recent move has been nothing short of controversial.

According to CNN, Melania will not be giving Dr. Jill Biden the traditional tour of the White House.

The seventy-year-old tradition has been a crucial part of the power exchange between presidents and their wives in the past.

The offer itself was given to Melania by Michelle Obama back in 2017 when she was also given a personal tour.

But multiple US media outlet have said that the offer has yet to be extended to Dr. Jill Biden.

A former senior official in the Clinton administration told CNN this:

"I recall both interactions that then First Lady Hillary Clinton had with Barbara Bush in 1992 when she first arrived at the White House, and in 2000 when she hosted Laura Bush.

"Both were after contentious campaigns and both visits could not have been more gracious and welcoming."

Another official in the Trump administration has also described the move as "abhorrent."

And now Ashley Biden has spoken out about the issue.

In an exclusive interview with TODAY's Jenna Bush Hager, she revealed what Biden's team thought about the snub.

Biden said her mother has had no contact with the current first lady.

"No, I don't think they're doing the traditional protocol, which is unfortunate, but I think we're all OK with it," the thirty-nine-year-old said.

This news comes after Donald Trump announced that he will not be attending Joe Biden's inauguration ceremony and instead will be heading to his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, as reported by News Corp.

It's clear that the president-elect and his wife will be losing any sleep over it.
