The wait for Avatar: The Way of Water is almost over, but fans might be shocked to learn about its totally mammoth runtime.
The sequel to James Cameron’s Avatar is one of the most anticipated movies of the decade.

That’s because fans have been waiting a pretty long time!
Ordinarily, you can expect a movie to last somewhere in the 120 to 150 minute timeframe.

However, for the next Avatar film, it seems Cameron has thrown all expectations out of the window…
The first Avatar movie was a total hit.

It is even the highest-grossing movie of all time, cashing in an impressive $2.9 billion!
It actually knocked another Cameron movie off the top spot!

Prior to Avatar‘s release, Titanic was the highest-grossing film.
Avatar is known for its setting in the epic world of Pandora.

Cameron worked on creating the world for years before filming even began!
The story revolves around humans having come to the planet in order to harvest its natural resources.

By doing so, however, they place the native Na’vi people, their culture and the planet of Pandora at risk. Sounds kind of familiar, right?
At the time, the visual effects used in Avatar were groundbreaking.

It was the visual aspect of the movie which made it truly successful, as viewers were drawn in by its beautiful scenes.
However, making a movie that beautiful didn’t come cheap…

Estimates say it cost around $300 million for the movie’s production alone!
But it was all worth it in the end…

The movie was a big hit at the Oscars, being nominated for 9 awards in total and winning 3.
And there’s good news for fans of the first movie…

Because its sequel, Avatar: The Way of Water, will feature lots of the same cast members!
Firstly, Sam Worthington is set to return to his role as Jake Sully.

He plays a paraplegic Marine, who has been sent to the planet to replace his deceased twin’s role as an operator of a Na’vi avatar.
Sigourney Weaver is also set to make a comeback to the franchise.

Her role as Dr. Grace Augustine is one of the most lovable characters in the movie.
Then there’s also Zoe Saldana.

The actress actually plays one of the Na’vi, called Neytiri, so her entire visual performance was made using motion capture.
Stephen Lang is also expected to make a return.

He played the rather terrifying Colonel Miles Quaritch.
And now, more details have been revealed about the movie’s long-awaited sequel.

Fans have been curious to see how long the runtime of Avatar: The Way of the Water will be, seeing as it seems Hollywood can’t keep a blockbuster short these days!
UNILAD reports that the sequel is set to clock in at 190 minutes.

That means over 3 hours of being transported to another world — make sure you have your popcorn at the ready!
