Jennifer Lopez is not here for the fans making fun of her husband’s seemingly-constant frown.
J.Lo has had ENOUGH when it comes to folks criticizing her man.
The singer and her husband, Ben Affleck, have been through their share of hardships together over the years.
Their love story is unconventional…
After starring together in Gigli, Lopez and Affleck began dating in 2002 and got engaged later that same year.
The duo quickly became one of the biggest duos in Hollywood, plus, they were one of the first to receive a hybrid couple name: “Bennifer.”
Heading into 2003, Lopez and Affleck were one of the most popular couples in Hollywood, being infamously hounded by the paparazzi day-in and day-out.
“We didn’t try to have a public relationship,” Lopez told PEOPLE in 2016. “We just happened to be together at the birth of the tabloids, and it was like ‘Oh my God.’ It was just a lot of pressure.”
In 2021, Affleck reflected on just how rude media coverage of Lopez was when they were together.
“People were so f***ing mean about her — sexist, racist,” Affleck said on a podcast. “Ugly, vicious s**t was written about her in ways that if you wrote it now you would literally be fired for saying those things you said.”
Their shocking split
All of the negative media attention ended up getting to the couple, affecting their real-life relationship.
Just days before the pair were set to be married in Santa Barbara on Sept. 14, 2003, the couple announced in a statement that they would be postponing their marriage.
“Due to the excessive media attention surrounding our wedding, we have decided to postpone the date,” Affleck and Lopez said in the statement at the time.
They continued, “When we found ourselves seriously contemplating hiring three separate ‘decoy brides’ at three different locations, we realized that something was awry.”
Sadly, the couple didn’t recover from the hoards of papparazzi and media attention, ultimately calling it quits.
PEOPLE previously reported that after briefly splitting up in the wake of the canceled wedding, the duo rekindled their relationship, but officially called it quits in January 2004.
But their story is far from over…
As fans of the couple already know, Bennifer’s love story didn’t stop after their breakup in 2004.
Following Lopez’s split from Alex Rodriguez in April 2021, the singer began spending time with Affleck in Los Angeles.
“They are friends. They have always been friends and they have seen each other through the years,” a source told PEOPLE at the time.
But, as it turns out, the pair were more than just friends, rekindling their long-lost relationship nearly two decades after their breakup.
The couple got engaged, once again, in April 2022–and this time, they went through with the wedding!
Wedding bells!
On July 17, 2022, Lopez confirmed in her On The JLo newsletter that she and Affleck got married in Las Vegas the night prior.
In her post, she detailed the “best night ever” and indicated that the couple’s children were “the best witnesses.”
The couple has been living in wedded bliss ever since, but some fans think their relationship is already on the rocks.
A lot of the rumors surrounding their relationship have to do with Affleck’s appearance, commonly frowning when he and Lopez are spotted out and about.
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet for the Golden Globes on Jan 8, J.Lo spoke directly to Affleck’s fans, ensuring the public he’s more than okay.
During the conversation, Lopez was asked: “Why are people always worried about what face Ben has on?”
Jennifer’s response…
Lopez immediately started laughing before she responded, “Ben is doing alright. You don’t need to worry about Ben. Let me just tell you he is good.”
“He is happy, he is here, he is nominated,” she continued. “He’s like ‘i’m chilling, I don’t understand what people are pressed for’. He is alright. He is alright.”
So, there you have it, straight from the source: Ben Affleck is doing just fine!
