The state of Texas recently decided that it's ready to return to normality and starting March 10th, the mask mandate will come to an end with businesses in the area being allowed to re-open with no capacity limits.

But President Biden is not happy with this situation...

And he has described the choice as "neanderthal thinking"...

Now, as we've hit the year mark of the global pandemic, we've realized just how much our lives have changed.

It all seems like such a long time ago now, doesn't it? Because our lives have well and truly been turned upside down by the coronavirus pandemic.

In the past few months, we've been trying to return to normality...

But it's been a pretty difficult ride.

While things are getting back to normal, we must still take precautions.

This is very important because we need to stop the spread of the virus.

In fact, some precautions are becoming mandatory in some places.

Including here in the U.S.

In some states, it has become mandatory to wear a face mask in public places.

For example, in some retail stores like Costco, customers are required to wear one... including on public transport.

Some people are choosing to wear a face-covering regardless...

To provide them with peace of mind.

But the issue that many people have discovered is how uncomfortable face masks can be...

Particularly when they are worn for a long period of time; but that's a small price to pay to keep the people around us safe!

But obviously, there has been an ongoing debate as to if they actually provide enough protection.

The world seems to be divided on the issue, with lots of people claiming that the masks are in fact only an accessory used to control the masses.

And that's why many are refusing to wear them.

Anti-lockdown protests have been taking place regardless of the staggering number of deaths that our country has sadly endured.

Health experts have stressed their importance for those people that still don't get it.

Healthline describes them as "crucial in the fight against the pandemic." They stressed that this rule is to protect others and not yourself. Wearing a mask reduces the transmission of the disease by at least half.

A lot of people have decided to take on board these expert suggestions...

But others have decided to be less accommodating to the idea.

And it is now time to add the entire state of Texas to that list.

If Texas wasn't in a predicament already, this will surely help them get there. Recently, the governor of the state, Greg Abbott announced that he will be lifting the state-wide mandate on masks as well as re-opening all businesses at full capacity from March 10th.

Yep, literally in a matter of days.

On Tuesday, Abbott tweeted this:

He actually thinks he's doing something amazing here.

The news comes after Abbott was warned by federal health professionals not to ease restrictions.

"To be clear, Covid has not, like, suddenly disappeared," Abbott said. "Covid still exists in Texas and the United States and across the globe."

But he also added that "state mandates are no longer needed."

Democratic leaders have reacted badly to the news, which is to be expected. Gilberto Hinojosa said: "What Abbott is doing is extraordinarily dangerous."

He continued:

"This will kill Texans. Our country's infectious-disease specialists have warned that we should not put our guard down, even as we make progress towards vaccinations. Abbott doesn't care."

And now, President Biden has his say on the decision branding it as "neanderthal thinking."

Which many people online agree with...

As per ABC News, Biden spoke to reporters at the Oval office and echoed the frustration from top COVID-19 response officials in his administration that case numbers are not yet low enough.

"I hope everybody has realized by now these masks make a difference. We are on the cusp of being able to fundamentally change the nature of this disease because of the way we are able to get vaccine in people's arms. We've been able to move that all the way up to the end of may to have enough for every American, to get every adult American to get a shot," he said.

"And the last thing, the last thing, the last thing we need is the neanderthal thinking that in the meantime everything's fine, take off your mask, forget it," Biden continued.

"It still matters. ... It's critical, critical, critical, critical that they follow the science."

So far around 5.7 million Texans have been vaccinated.

So let's hope that it will soon start making a difference.
