President Joe Biden has had some stern words for anyone questioning how serious the January 6th U.S Capitol riot was.
“I don’t care if you think I’m Satan reincarnated,” he said Wednesday at a CNN town hall in Cincinnati. “The fact is you can’t look at that television and say nothing happened on the sixth and listen to people who say this was a peaceful march.”
Biden had recently been asked by Moderator Don Lemon whether or not Republicans and Democrats could work together after it was made evident that the 2 parties were having trouble during the investigation into the Capitol insurrection. “These people,” Biden responded. “The fact is you can’t look at that television and say nothing happened on the 6th and listen to people who say this was a peaceful march.”
A thirteen-member House committee which consists of both Democrats and Republicans was put together last month to investigate the January 6th attack on the U.S. Capitol.
“With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee,” Pelosi said in a statement seen by the Associated Press.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had questioned whether both Jim Banks of Indiana and Jim Jordan of Ohio were suitable for the committee as they both support former President Donald Trump and voted to overturn the election results. Pelosi’s worry was that they might jeopardize the integrity of the inquiry. She rejected the pair on Wednesday, who were both nominated by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy.
McCarthy said Republicans would not participate in the investigation if the Democrats did not accept the people he picked.
Biden also told GOP Legislators who were pushing voting restrictions and changes to the way elections are run that: “I stand by what I said. Never before has there been an attempt by state legislatures to take over the ability to determine who won – not count the votes, determine who won.”
He even called it “Jim Crow on steroids.”
