It seems as though Bill Gates has a very specific arrangement with his ex-girlfriend, even after his marriage to Melinda...

And now this revelation has got a lot of people talking.

From wild getaways to spending extra quality time together, it seems as though Gates had a particularly special bond with one of his ex-girlfriends...

And the rest of the gossip is just as juicy.

Now, all this got unearthed after the news that Bill and Melinda Gates are getting divorced made global headlines.

The couple have announced their divorce after twenty-seven years of marriage.

Gates is the mastermind behind Microsoft - one of the largest tech companies in the world.

The company wrote and developed one of the most-used computer software in the world. According to Forbes, Microsoft is the third biggest company in the world, with an estimated worth of $947 billion dollars.

Not bad for a college drop out...

Yep, Bill never actually graduated. He initially left Seattle and enrolled at Harvard University in the fall of 1973, aiming for a career in law after pressure from his parents. However, he would spend more time in the computer lab than he would in class, and he rarely studied for his exams.

He dropped out of college in 1975.

College life isn't for everyone. A mere 2 years after enrolling, Bill left Harvard and re-joined his partner, Paul Allen, whom he had started a small computer company with when he was just fifteen. Beats what I was doing when I was fifteen...

Bill and Paul were childhood friends...

And they were wild about computers. But they were living in an age wherein access to computers was sparse, so they would often skip class together and sneak into their school's only computer room.

Though they didn't get expelled for this...

Nope. The school were actually so impressed by their computer skills that, instead of punishing the boys, they offered them unlimited computer time in exchange for help with improving the school computer's performance.

The boys started a small company from the school.

Instead of going to parties, smoking cigarettes around the back of the bikesheds, or partaking in any of the other generic high school shenanigans, Bill and Paul actually launched their first computer company while in high school, labeled Traf-O-Data.

They even sold a computer to the City of Seattle, which was then used to count traffic.

Cue the birth of Microsoft...

Fast forward a couple of years and the pair had created their company, Microsoft.

The name Microsoft came from a blend of the words "micro-computer" and "software," and was officially launched in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in 1976.

After nearly ten years of writing and developing the Microsoft operating systems, the company released its crowning achievement in 1985: Microsoft Windows.

Windows became the staple computer operating system.

All you '80s and '90s kids will certainly remember that iconic Windows logo. The software, which was a multitasking environment for IBM computers, would come to dominate the world's personal computers (PCs), and made Bill a billionaire by the age of thirty-one.

And he didn't stop there...

Bill, who became Microsoft's standing CEO, took the company to new heights and continued to release ground-breaking software and operational systems for computers.

It seems that Bill has experienced nothing but success with Microsoft.

The fact that he's one of the world's richest men alone tells you everything you need to know, doesn't it?

And throughout all of his successes...

Bill had his wife, Melinda, by his side.

They have been married since 1994...

And they have accomplished a hell of a lot together, including setting up the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which aims to reduce poverty and enhance healthcare in the United States.

They're also known for being incredibly generous...

And they've donated hundreds of millions of dollars over the years to numerous charities and organizations around the world.

But just a few days ago...

News emerged that the couple are getting divorced.

TMZ broke the tragic news...

Announcing that the couple revealed their divorce in a joint statement.

People even went as far as speculating on the cost of the divorce.

As the pair have to split their whopping $130bn fortune.

It's the largest division of assets since Jeff Bezos' divorce in 2019.

When Mackenzie Bezos walked away with 25% of the fortune - around $35.8b worth of Amazon shares.

There's no prenup between the pair...

Meaning a 50/50 split is more likely - though this could take a lot of time to divide up.

If this does happen, we could see Bill drop from number 4 to number 7 on the official billionaires' index.

But in terms of ranking in popularity, I'm sure Gates has dropped after it was recently re-discovered that the billionaire spent his time on getaways with his ex-girlfriend, Ann Winblad.

During his 1997 Time profile, he revealed his slightly bizarre setup.

"We can play putt-putt while discussing biotechnology," Gates said of his private getaways with Winblad. They would spend a long weekend away in a cottage in North Carolina.

He even went as far as asking for her approval to marry his current wife.

"When I was off on my own thinking about marrying Melinda, I called Ann and asked for her approval," he said, adding that Winblad gave the other woman the thumb's up.

Winblad also told the outlet this: "We share our thoughts about the world and ourselves."

"And we marvel about how, as two young overachievers, we began a great adventure on the fringes of a little-known industry and it landed us at the center of an amazing universe."

At the time of the 1997 interview, Gates also had a photo of him and his ex in his office.

Bit strange for a married man, but hey, whatever works for them, I guess.

The revelation was re-discovered shortly after the power couple announced their divorce.

This is a developing story and will be updated accordingly.
