But George's death has sparked an outrage like never before.

Thousands upon thousands of people have been taking to the streets in protest...

And they are all marching for one thing: For the blatant racism and injustice in this country to be brought to an end.

Many protests turned violent...

But change needs to happen and, at the moment, this seems like the only way to make it happen.

Remarkably, however, they seem to be working.

Thanks to these riots, the Black Lives Matter movement is dominating global headlines, and it has completely taken over social media.

It has also taken over our streets...

For instance, a group of people painted large yellow letters saying "Black Lives Matter" down two blocks of 16th Street in D.C - a two-lane road that coincidentally leads to the White House.

Protests have been happening across the pond too...

Hundreds of thousands of people have been taking to the streets in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

We are witnessing history in the making...

And people are continuing to demand justice.

However, not everyone has been so supportive of the movement.

Amongst the stories of positivity from the protests, there have been some tales with a slightly more sour undertone.

Blatant racism is still happening across our country...

And countless stories of black people being targeted are continuing to emerge.

The most recent incident comes from Wisconsin.

An eighteen-year-old black girl had lighter fluid sprayed on her before a group of 4 white men set her on fire.

The incident took place on Wednesday night, around 1 AM.

The teenage EMT suffered second, and third-degree burns as a result of the flames.

It all started when she pulled up to a red light.

Althea Bernstein was on the way to her brother's friend's house when she stopped at a red. She was listening to music with the windows down when a car pulled up next to her.

Inside sat 4 men who immediately started abusing her.

They hurled racist insults at her, including the N-word and then went as far as praying her face and neck with lighter fluid before throwing a flaming lighter at her.

She drove forward and patted out the flames before driving to her mother's home.

Once there, she was taken to the hospital to treat her burns. According to medical professionals, they believe lighter fluid was used in the attack, and Bernstein will need to make multiple visits to continue treatment.

Michael Johnson, CEO of the Boys & Girls Club of Dane County spoke on behalf of her family.

He told Buzzfeed News this: "It's totally unacceptable given everything that is going on this country. It's just unacceptable behavior that we're just not going to tolerate."

He continued:

"[Bernstein's parents] just wanted to make sure that their daughter heals from this. The mother, she just wants to make sure that her daughter heals and is OK."

The family released a written statement in which they stated that they are "saddened by the unprovoked attack."

The authorities are said to be treating this as an (alleged) hate crime and are checking CCTV for any further evidence that could lead to any arrests made.

Currently, Bernstein is back home and trying to heal from the incident.

Well, the scars might fade in time but the mental trauma that comes with being targeted for the color of your skin will remain with her for a lifetime.

We hope that she gets the justice she deserves.

Even though these protests are bringing some of the good nature out in people, they are also bringing out the most devilish side. We wish Althea Bernstein a speedy recovery. Keep scrolling for more news on similar issues...
