And one dog was recently given a second chance at life after getting his very own guide dog.

A blind golden retriever was in need of some guidance...

After getting his eyes removed, he needed help to re-adjust to the world around him.

Twelve-year-old Tao was struggling to adapt...

After he lost both eyes to glaucoma last February.

Before he lost his sight, his owner trained him with commands to make the transition easier.

Allowing him to adapt to losing his eyesight over time before the inevitable happened and they had to remove his eyes completely.

His owner, Melanie Jackson, decided the best thing to do would be to get Tao a little buddy to help him.

Oko, the 8-week-old pup has since become essential in helping Tao get around.

The pair are now inseparable, and Oko won't leave Tao's side.

This new lease of life has allowed Tao to take part in the same activities he could do before going blind. Like running!

Oko has given Tao the confidence to overcome this otherwise giant obstacle in his life.

He can still enjoy all the things dogs love to do, and his other senses have heightened massively.

Melanie wrote in the description...

"This means the world to me – as you all know Tao is totally blind (no eyes). He is such an amazing dog and has adjusted so well to his new life but he didn’t quite have the confidence to run, let alone run ahead. He was comfortable following me."

"Oko has given him that confidence."

Melanie said Tao's situation went downhill very fast last year.

She explained...

"Glaucoma is the build-up of fluid in the eye - it's got nowhere to drain away. If you can imagine a migraine and times it by a hundred - that was the pain he was in."

"We managed to keep the glaucoma under control in his remaining eye with drops for 11 months."

But it was clear that his eyesight was deteriorating fast.

Melanie has since worked with organizations using Tao's "marker" to help other dogs that could be prone to glaucoma.

Enabling owners to get treatment for their dogs early enough to prevent it from getting to Tao's stage.

Their Instagram page @tao_mr_winky has touched the hearts of thousands...

We can't wait to see what else they get up to together.

Way too cute!
