A first-grader decided he wasn’t going to remove his mask at school, not even for his official portrait…

Mason Peoples has gone viral after he refused to take off his mask at school, not even when the school’s photographer asked him to.

And it was all because his mom, Nicole, told him not to take it off unless he was eating.

Posting to Facebook, the proud mom shared the snapshot of her son alongside the cutest caption about how the conversation between him and the photographer went down.

“Photographer: Ok, take your mask off.
Mason: My mom said to keep it on all the time unless I’m eating and far away from everybody.
Photographer: I’m sure it’s ok to take it off for your pictures.
Mason: No, my mom seriously told me to make sure to keep it on.
Photographer: Are you sure you don’t want to take it off for 2 seconds?
Mason: No Thank you, I always listen to my mom!
Photographer: Ok, say cheese!”
Nicole also added that she was so proud of Mason, but she “should have been more clear about [her] rules on this day.”

Even though you couldn’t see half of his face in the official portrait, he still looked as adorable as ever, cracking a small grin under his dark blue mask.

Later on, Nicole spoke to The Washington Post, telling the outlet that her son was “super excited” about the day.
“I was expecting him to go to school and take his beautiful picture. I thought that he’d show that big, beautiful smile. Instead, he came home with the cutest story.”

She continued:

“The photo is just a great memory of what’s going on and how the kids are overcoming it,” Peoples said. She continued: “It has a really special meaning because it shows how proud he was to listen and to follow my directions. Even when I wasn’t there to remind him, he remembered.
“He remembers to wears his mask, and he does it proudly because he cares and because he doesn’t want to see anybody sick. I hope this does serve as a message to other people, to use this little 6-year-old boy as a symbol to remember to wear your mask out of the kindness of your heart.”

After the 6-year-old sensation went viral, his mom set up a GoFundMe page in order to raise money for Mason’s college fund (and for ice cream!) and so far, the family has managed to raise over $22,700.

Some of the highest amounts donated were around the $500 mark, and other donations from $50-$100 have helped the family secure a solid amount for Mason when he’s older. You really do love to see it.
Sometimes the internet can be a wholesome place. We adore you, Mason!
