Britney Spears Reportedly Checks Into Mental Health Facility, Saying She Needs 'Me Time' | 22 Words

For women like me in their early 30s, Britney is an icon. She's the girl we tried to imitate as we practiced dancing in front of the mirror, the girl whose style we tried to emulate by wearing crop tops and chunky sneakers, and even the girl whose 2007 head-shaving incident defined the era of rabid paparazzi-fueled public celebrity meltdowns. So it's hard to hear that present day Britney is experiencing tough times again.

Recently, Britney's father has had a number of health problems, and the pop icon has decided to put family first and take time off from her Domination show to be with him.

For Britney, family always comes first. And this time, that meant cancelling her Vegas residency until further notice.

On January 4th, she wrote the following caption on Instagram: "I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say. I will not be performing my new show Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make. A couple of months ago, my father was hospitalized and almost died. We’re all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him. I had to make the difficult decision to put my full focus and energy on my family at this time. I hope you all can understand. More information on ticket refunds is available on I appreciate your prayers and support for my family during this time. Thank you, and love you all… always."

Then, today, she posted the following quote on Instagram with the caption: "We all need to take time for a little 'me time.' :)"

And what exactly is "me time" for Britney? Well, according to TMZ, "Britney checked herself into the facility about a week ago where she will live for 30 days." For now, TMZ is the only outlet that claims to have first-hand information about this facility, so let's take it with a grain of salt until Britney or her family confirms the news.

Either way, what we do know for sure is that she is taking time off to care for her mental health.

And however she does that, her longtime fans support her 100%.

But what will happen to her other projects in the works?

It was recently announced that Britney's music would be the subject of a new Broadway musical.
