The war on chicken sandwiches took a turn this week as Burger King took an opportunity to show support for the LGBTQ+ community.

While taking a hit at Chick-fil-A after the company was alleged to have been donating to anti-LGBTQ+ groups.

With the release of its new Ch’King Sandwich, Burger King will donate forty cents to the Human Rights Campaign up to $250,000.

Taking a dig at Chick-fil-A, Burger King also made sure to note that donations will be valid on Sundays, a day that Chick-fil-A is closed.

It comes after The Daily Beast exposed Chick-fil-A’s CEO, Dan Cathy, as a donor to the National Christian Charitable Foundation.

The National Christian Charitable Foundation is a foundation that has a history of funding opposition to The Equality Act, highlighting that Chick-fil-A’s donations are going towards anti-LGBTQ+ causes.

Burger King announced the news in a tweet, writing:

“The #ChKing says LGBTQ+ rights! During #pride month (even on Sundays) your chicken sandwich craving can do good! we are making a donation* to @HRC for every Ch’King sold.”

A spokesperson for Burger King said in an email statement to US Today:

“This is a community we love dearly and have proudly supported over the years, so we couldn’t miss an opportunity to take action and help shine a light on the important conversation happening.”
