One of the accused Capitol rioters has hit the headlines after asking permission to leave the US for a vacation.
It’s safe to say, the request has left everyone stunned…
It’s hard to believe that the shocking riot that took place at the U.S Capitol building in Washington D.C happened over 3 weeks ago, right?
Well, even though a lot has happened since then, the aftermath is still very much apparent.
Of course, many of the people involved in the violence have since been dealt with by the authorities…
In fact, many cases are still ongoing.
And they won’t be getting away lightly with what they did.
But one accused rioter still seems to not be taking things so seriously …
Now, it all started on January 6th when the former president, Donald Trump, held a “Save America” rally in Washington D.C, just a few miles away from the White House.
Thousands of his eager supporters were there listening to and latching on to every word that came out of Trump’s mouth.
Trump’s refusal to concede to the winner of the 2020 election and the now-president, Joe Biden, seemed to fuel the anger among his supporters…
And the overwhelming presence of far-right extremists is now more apparent than ever.
Trump repeatedly told his crowd that he was “the real winner” and how they needed to “take the election back”…
Before finally telling them to “go down to the Capitol building” and “fight like hell for our country.”
He even said he’d be there alongside them which, of course, he didn’t mean literally.
This resulted in thousands of his supporters, all armed with MAGA merchandise and Trump flags, storming down to the U.S Capitol building and breaking in…
Where hell was well and truly unleashed.
A joint session of Congress was underway to certify Biden’s election win when the rioters made their way into the building.
Thankfully, all members of the House and staff were safely evacuated but this didn’t mean things were over.
People began smashing down windows and doors, looting valuable items, and even breaking into Nancy Pelosi’s office and taking some of her personal possessions.
And to make things even more terrifying…
Text messages were later discovered from one of the rioters describing his plans to “shoot and run over” Pelosi.
Thankfully, these terrible plans didn’t go ahead – but it just goes to show the alarming ideologies and ambitions held by many of the people present on that day.
While Trump was called on again and again to issue a televised statement to try and calm his supports, he instead (and eventually) tweeted a video telling his supporters to “go home”…
All while reminding them that they’re “very special” and that he “loves them.”
Of course, this wasn’t taken well by the very shaken-up members of Congress.
His reluctance to take responsibility then lead to him being suspended indefinitely from all major social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram…
Of course, we all know how much Trump loved to tweet, so this was a huge deal.
Things just seemed to be getting worse and worse for Trump…
And alongside hundreds of his supporters being arrested and charged for their involvement in the riots, Congress were having some serious talks about what to do about his lack of concern over the violence caused by his army of followers.
It didn’t take long for Pelosi to prepare a vote to impeach Trump for the second time in his first and only presidential term…
And even though former Vice-President Mike Pence refused to invoke the 25th amendment, which is what would have removed Trump from office immediately, it was voted shortly afterward to go forward with the impeachment.
On the afternoon of January 13th, Donald Trump was officially impeached, making him the only president in U.S history to be impeached more than once.
The final vote was 232-197, as per The Guardian, though the matter is yet to go before the Senate which will decide whether he should be convicted.
We’re sure that all of his supporters who stormed the Capitol that day did not expect this…
And we’re also sure that they didn’t expect to have legal action taken against them for their violent and illegal acts.
But, those involved are having to face the consequences of their actions that day…
Some have been fired from their jobs after being spotted by their employers.
One mom was outed by her daughter after she was spotted in a video online.
And of course, countless protestors have been arrested.
Including Richard Barnett, the man infamously photographed with his feet on Nancy Pelosi’s desk.
Barnett hijacked Pelosi’s office on the day of the riots, taking pictures with his feet up on his desk.
He also rummaged through her private files and even managed to steal a letter addressed to the Speaker.
Barnett was arrested a few days after the storming of the Capitol took place and faced charges for entering and remaining on restricted grounds, violent entry and theft of public property, and to have allegedly been in possession of a stun gun during the deadly riots.
Barnett originally had his bail set at $5000 with house arrest until he was charged, but this is no longer the case.
As a judge has ordered that Barnett is held in jail while his case goes forward.
But today, another accused Capitol rioter has hit headlines.
For a potentially even more shocking reason.
Jenny Cudd’s lawyers asked the US District Court for the District of Columbia for a request to travel out of the US.
The reason? “A planned and prepaid for a weekend retreat with her employees for the dates of February 18 through February 21, 2021, in Riviera Maya, Mexico.”
It remains to be seen whether this request will actually be granted …
