The legendary musician Carly Simon has said she is “filled with sorrow” after both of her sisters died just one day apart.
Carly Simon was one of the biggest stars of the seventies.

The musician had a whole host of hits during the decade.
Born in the 1940s, Simon came from a creative family.

Her father was a co-founder of publishing company Simon & Schuster, but he was also a classical pianist, and her mother was also a singer.
While she made her big break in the seventies, the star began her career with one of her sisters.

They called themselves, rather aptly, the Simon Sisters.
Alongside her sister Lucy, the pair released their first album in 1964 titled Meet the Simon Sisters.

They shared their second album, Cuddlebug, in 1966.
However, in 1970, the star was signed onto a solo contract.

She released her self-titled debut album less than a year later.
It was around this time that Simon met her first husband, fellow singer-songwriter James Taylor.

The pair married in November 1972.
They went on to have 2 children together.

Sally and Ben Taylor both went on to become musicians and activists themselves.
However, things weren’t smooth sailing for Simon and Taylor, and eventually, they ended up divorcing.

The pair split in 1983.
Simon said of the split in 2015: “I would say that the relationship is very resolved from James’s point of view.

“Which makes it clearly impossible for me to have a relationship with him because he’s put down an iron curtain.
“Which I think is a very strange thing to do since I never considered myself to be harmful or dangerous, but perhaps he knows something that I don’t know.”

Her comments, via the Express, echo the same sentiments that she shared in her 2015 memoir Boys in the Trees.
However, some of Simon’s greatest work was alongside her ex-husband.

The pair dueted many times, with hits such as ‘Mockingbird’ and ‘Devoted to You’.
She went on to marry James Hart, a poet and writer, in 1987.

The couple divorced in 2007.
However, Simon’s biggest hit is the ever-iconic ‘You’re So Vain’.

The cutting track has been the subject of discussions for decades, with everyone wanting to know who this line is about: “You’re so vain, you probably think this song is about you.”
The star made international fame when she sang ‘Nobody Does it Better’ for The Spy Who Loved Me in 1977.

The power ballad became a worldwide hit, and was even nominated for Song of the Year at the Grammy’s.
Simon’s influence on the world of music has been huge, with a range of artists crediting her as an inspiration.

From Taylor Swift to Gorillaz, the ‘You’re So Vain’ singer is no doubt a legend in the industry.
But now, the star’s life has been hit by tragedy.

Late last week, Simon revealed some heartbreaking news…
Both of her sisters died within just one day of each other.

This comes after her brother died of cancer back in 2018.
Composer and fellow member of the Simon Sisters, Lucy passed away aged eighty-two.

She died of metastatic breast cancer on Thursday, as per CNN.
Her other sister Joanna passed just one day beore.

She died of thyroid cancer at ninety-five years old.
In a statement, Simon said: “I am filled with sorrow to speak about the passing of Joanna and Lucy Simon. Their loss will be long and haunting.”

She continued: “As sad as this day is, it’s impossible to mourn them without celebrating their incredible lives that they lived.”
“We were 3 sisters who not only took turns blazing trails and marking courses for one another, we were each other’s secret shares. The co-keepers of each other’s memories.

“I have no words to explain the feeling of suddenly being the only remaining direct offspring of Richard and Andrea Simon,” she added.
“They touched everyone they knew and those of us they’ve left behind will be lucky and honored to carry their memories forward,” Simon said.

Our thoughts go out to Carly Simon and her family during this difficult time.
