Celebrities Slam Amy Coney Barrett Becoming New Supreme Court Justice

The US Senate seriously divided opinions after it confirmed Judge Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court earlier this week.

And, since the news broke, plenty of famous faces have publicly slammed the decision…as well as making a suggestion for who could replace her…

And guess what? People are not happy about it.

And plenty of famous faces haven’t been afraid to voice their own opinions, either.

Well, that’s because it pretty much was only a minute ago – Barrett was nominated a mere month ago, on September 26th, to be precise.

And was nominated in the wake of the death of beloved Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who passed away last month at the age of eighty-seven.

“My most fervent wish is that I will not be replaced until a new president is installed.”

Considering that the Supreme Court decides the law on pivotal issues including abortion and gun control, most of us weren’t entirely surprised.

However, when another associate justice position came up, Brett Kavanaugh was appointed instead because Trump said he was “saving [Barrett] for Ginsburg.”

And, of course, Democrats have been fearful that Judge Barrett’s confirmation to the lifelong post will favor Republicans in politically sensitive cases that reach America’s top court for potentially decades to come.

This week, Trump’s fellow Republicans voted 52-48 to approve the judge, overcoming the unified opposition of Democrats. Only one Republican, Senator Susan Collins, voted against the president’s nominee in Monday evening’s vote.

Trump said: “This is a momentous day for America, for the United States constitution, and for the fair and impartial rule of law.”

“She [Barrett] is one of our nation’s most brilliant legal scholars and she will make an outstanding justice on the highest court in our land.”

“A judge declares independence not only from the Congress and the president but also from the private beliefs that might otherwise move her.”

At the age of forty-eight, Barrett is the Supreme Court’s youngest justice.

Admittedly, there have been many words of congratulations, including from TV host and journalist, Piers Morgan, who said that Barrett is “incredibly well qualified for the job”, all while slamming the “squealing Democrats” as “hypocritical” and “pathetic.”

People are seriously unimpressed.

Before adding that Trump’s move should serve as a “stark reminder to every American that your vote matters.”

Taking to Twitter, she wrote: “Instead of working to provide COVID-19 relief to struggling Americans, Mitch McConnell and Republicans chose to jam through a Supreme Court nominee—when more than 62 million people have already voted. It’s despicable and they must be held accountable.”

She finished by stating: “Today Republicans denied the will of the American people by confirming a Supreme Court justice through an illegitimate process — all in their effort to gut the Affordable Care Act and strip health care from millions with pre-existing conditions.”
