Now, it was announced on the morning of April 9th that Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, had sadly died.
He was ninety-nine-years-old.
It was no secret that the royal had been struggling with his health for quite some time...
And had undergone many surgeries over the years.
However, things truly took a turn for the worst for the royal this year...
After he was rushed to hospital after feeling "unwell" on February 16th.
The Duke made a brief recovery...
But from there, things were quick to worsen and the news we had all been dreading arrived last week.
Buckingham Palace announced on April 9th that Prince Phillip had passed away in his sleep at the age of ninety-nine.
He will be greatly missed by all those who know and love the royal family.
Since the tragic news broke, tributes from fans, celebrities, and politicians alike were quick to flood in.

In their own statement, the royal family wrote:
"It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss. Further announcements will be made in due course."
Prince William, the future King of England, soon followed suit.
Sharing an adorable throwback of Prince George with his great-grandfather, William wrote on the Cambridge's Instagram account:
"I feel lucky to have not just had his example to guide me, but his enduring presence well into my own adult life – both through good times and the hardest days. I will always be grateful that my wife had so many years to get to know my grandfather and for the kindness he showed her."
He went on:
"I will never take for granted the special memories my children will always have of their great-grandpa coming to collect them in his carriage and seeing for themselves his infectious sense of adventure as well as his mischievous sense of humor! My grandfather was an extraordinary man and part of an extraordinary generation."
Prince Harry then issued an emotional statement on his and Meghan Markle's website, The Archewell Foundation.
The message read:
"My grandfather was a man of service, honor, and great humor. He was authentically himself, with a seriously sharp wit, and could hold the attention of any room due to his charm—and also because you never knew what he might say next. He has been a rock for Her Majesty The Queen with unparalleled devotion, by her side for seventy-three years of marriage, and while I could go on, I know that right now he would say to all of us, beer in hand, 'Oh do get on with it!'"
He finished by saying:
"So, on that note, Grandpa, thank you for your service, your dedication to Granny, and for always being yourself. You will be sorely missed, but always remembered—by the nation and the world. Meghan, Archie, and I (as well as your future great-granddaughter) will always hold a special place for you in our hearts."
It's clearly such a painful loss for the family...
And Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla, were left in tears earlier today after they saw the British public's tribute in honor of Philip's memory.
Charles, who is the next in line to the throne, visited the private royal gardens of Marlborough House with Camilla this morning...
And it's clear the royal couple were truly touched by the sea of flowers and cards left by members of the British public who are still mourning the loss of the Duke of Edinburgh.
The flowers and condolence messages were transferred from outside Buckingham palace and the parks such as St James' Park to the nearby private gardens...
And the Prince of Wales was seen wiping away tears as he observed the kind messages of condolence.
The couple paused for long periods as they looked at the piles of tributes...
And Charles looked particularly sad when they saw a toy Land Rover, his father's favorite car which will be used as the hearse to carry his coffin during his funeral on April 17th.
Rest in Peace, Prince Philip.
Make sure to stay posted for updates on the royal funeral this weekend.
