But it was also reported that he was in “good spirits” after being taken to the King Edward VII Hospital in London.

The Duke made a brief recovery…

But since then, things were quick to get worse.

His health deteriorated rapidly…

And on Friday, we received the news we were all dreading.

Buckingham Palace announced on April 9 that Prince Phillip had tragically passed away at the age of ninety-nine.

He will be greatly missed by all those who know and love the royal family.

The royal family announced the tragic news with a statement, reading:

“It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss. Further announcements will be made in due course.”

Since then, tributes have been flooding in from fans, celebrities, and politicians alike.

But despite the news being shared across the world…

It seems some people remain unaware of Prince Philip’s death.

One Australian comedian only learned of Prince Philip’s death while on stage telling a poor-taste joke about him.

Stand-up comedian, Lewis Spears, was on stage at a club in Melbourne on Friday when he delivered the joke.

Speaking about the royal family, Spears said Prince Philip was “3,000 years old.”

And just seconds after Spears’ mocking, an audience member shouted that Philips death had just been announced.

The news triggered gasps from both the audience and Spears who then read aloud the announcement.

But sadly, that didn’t stop his poor-taste jokes…

As Spears insensitively said: “I have to say… it’s been overdue.”

  via YouTube

“Are we sure he died today? I reckon he died 10 years ago and they wheel him out attached to strings at special events!”

Then just hours after, he continued by tweeting about the show.

“Prince Philip died DURING my show tonight. Clip coming soon,” his tweet read.
