He also hosted The Tonight Show between 2009 and 2010.

He then went ahead and wrote for the program for two years and even acted in several improvisational groups, including the Groundlings.

But it was in 1988 that he officially became a writer at the late-night comedy show Saturday Night Live

That’s where he created such popular recurring characters as Mr. Short-Term Memory and the Girl Watchers.

Soon after, O’Brien left Saturday Night Live in 1991 and joined the writing staff of  The Simpsons.

But that’s not all…

O’Brien’s goofiness contributed greatly to the show’s success, and he eventually became the supervising producer of the show.

In 1993, after David Letterman moved his late-night talk show to CBS, NBC then hired O’Brien to fill the vacant time slot, and Late Night with Conan O’Brien premiered in September of that year.

While he was scrutinized in the media and compared to Letterman…

He gradually developed a devoted audience.

The show even went ahead and was nominated for numerous Emmys and won one for writing in 2007.

But in 2004, Jay Leno, the longtime host of The Tonight Show, announced he was leaving the talk show.

Therefore, O’Brien was named his replacement.

The last episode of Late Night with Conan O’Brien was aired in February 2009, and O’Brien took over as host of The Tonight Show in June, with Richter again by his side.

Unfortunately, The Tonight Show hosted by O’Brien struggled in the ratings.

And in January 2010, rumors were rife that Leno would return to the program…

This caused quite a stir between the two comedians in real life.

After heated negotiations with NBC, O’Brien left The Tonight Show in late January and was replaced by Leno.

O’Brien took a 6-month sabbatical from television, as he was prohibited from appearing on television, but he eventually embarked on a live comedy tour, which was filmed for the documentary feature Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop back in 2011.

In November 2010 he returned back to late-night television as host of the talk show Conan, but amid declining ratings, the hour-long show was shortened to 30 minutes in 2019…

And two years later Conan ended.

O’Brien then released his first-ever podcast in 2018 titled, Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend.

He also went ahead and lent his voice to a number of animated projects, including The LEGO Batman Movie in 2017, where he played the classic Batman villain the Riddler.

And recently he’s been making headlines too…

This comes after the recent allegations against James Corden, who allegedly was “rude” to waiters at an NYC restaurant…

Although he’s apologized, people can’t help but compare him to celebrities who have, in fact, fired people for being rude.

One celebrity is, O’Brien.

According to reports, stand-up comedian Todd Levin, who was a writer on Conan from 2010 to 2020, was one of the many who contributed to the discussion around celebrity entitlement.

Taking to Twitter, Levin shared a similar story about O’Brien.

“At CONAN there was a crew member who was fired because Conan witnessed him being impatient and rude to a server at a restaurant,” he tweeted.

“Just remembering that now, for no particular reason,” he added.

Well, what do you think?
