A whole host of self-proclaimed Catfishes have been taking to TikTok to reveal what they look like in real life…

Now, in the last decade, the act of catfishing has become a phenomenon in its own right.

Ever since the 2010 documentary Catfish hit our screens, the word – once usually reserved for a species of actual fish – was given a whole new meaning entirely.

So, what exactly is catfishing?

Well, as per, catfishing defines the process of luring someone into a relationship by means of a fictional online persona.

So, after being catfished himself, Nev Schulman decided to document his journey in tracking down his online love, Megan…

Who actually turned out to be Angela, a Michigan-based mom who had fabricated Megan and, ultimately, her entire romance with Nev.

Following the success of his documentary, MTV soon swept it up…

And thus, MTV’s Catfish: The TV Show was born.

The series has been a roaring success…

And not only has it catapulted Nev and his filmmaking buddy, Max, to unprecedented levels of stardom, it has also made the act of catfishing somewhat of a cultural norm.

Fast forward to today, and more people than ever are finding themselves being lured into the catfishing trap.

Dating apps, social media, and endless camera filters have made it all too easy for people to create an online appearance that doesn’t quite align with reality.

Admittedly, some people aren’t intentionally out there catfishing…

But thanks to their heavy use of makeup and filters, they somehow end up doing it anyway.

Well, some of these self-proclaimed catfishers have been taking to TikTok as of late (because where else?) to expose themselves.

Let’s take a look at some of the best ones…
