Criticism of Noah Cyrus' See-Through Outfit Shows How Little Has Changed Since Miley's VMA's Performance | 22 Words

Noah Cyrus, Miley's little sister, has shocked fans with her recent choice of outfit, but the criticism raises some serious questions...

Noah is the lesser-known Cyrus sis.

But now, Miley's little sister Noah Cyrus has shocked fans all on her own, by wearing a very revealing outfit on stage. Has she outdone Miley this time?

Noah has previously been outspoken about life growing up with Miley...

And as we can imagine, it wasn't smooth sailing.

Noah, who is twenty-years-old, is the youngest daughter of Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus...

Making her Miley's baby sister.

Noah is also a singer...

And she has recently responded to some certain lyrics that fans believe to be a metaphor about her big sister.

Her latest song "Young & Sad" is all about what it's like growing up with such a huge star in the family.

The lyric that fans pointed out compares Miley to, "sunshine, bringing good light wherever she’ll go,"  while she, "was born to rain clouds, blessed in her shadows."

Noah even took to Instagram Live to discuss the song with her fans...

And it was clearly very emotional for the young woman as it didn't take long for her to break down in tears. "I think just the message in the second verse, being born in the family I was in, everyone gave me such a hard time for having a hard time being Miley’s little sister," she said.

Growing up wasn't easy for Noah...

"But you know, I always felt like I was that person that no one gave a s**t about due to what people said to me online," she added, calling the experience, "absolutely unbearable."

She said she wrote that lyric "because that’s why everybody always says to me, that no matter what, I was going to be in that shadow."

"I always believed that and that's so hard for me to overcome, you know, and that was something I heard my whole life, every single day, my whole life," she added. "It was either that or that I wasn’t enough in some way, whether it was the way I look or the way I am. Like I said the other day, sometimes I feel like I don’t even breathe right sometimes."

It is rare for the singer to open up about her personal life...

"Basically, that is what the song is about, and I just wanted to open up about that once and for all, because that’s been a big part of my life, and I probably won’t talk about it anymore. I just wanted to put it out," Noah continued.

The conflicts of social media haven't helped Noah at all...

"Everybody always says you’re giving the people power by seeing it, but I can’t control seeing it. You guys are young, you know the internet. It’s been really tough on me, so that song is just pretty tough to get through," she concluded.

It is undeniable how difficult it must be to grow up in the shadow of your famous big sister...

And it is truly heartbreaking that Noah feels this way, despite being so close to Miley.

And now Noah has hit headlines again.

For quite a different reason...

She wore a rather controversial outfit at the CMTs.

And it's safe to say the internet wasn't feeling too pleased...

But the criticism she's been facing raises another issue entirely...

Not only is the backlash sexist and harmful, according to a professor of gender and sexuality studies, but it's also scarily similar to comments made about big sister Miley.

The outfit was custom-made for Noah by Saga NYC, a self-described slow fashion brand with a focus on sustainability.

Speaking to Insider, Saga NYC founder Sandra Gagalo said she worked with Noah's stylist Phil Gomez to create the outfit, which was inspired by a similar look Noah wore in the "This Is Us" music video.

"This piece looks simple far away, but looking at it close up you would realize how many small pieces have been sewn together."

"The rhinestones were placed specifically to look like a floating thong and triangle bra so that it looked abstract."

But, despite being a sustainable, praise-worthy garment, the critical response to the garment is similar to what Miley has faced throughout her career.

And it's certainly eyebrow-raising.

From changing her image to stripping off...

Miley has dealt with her fair share of controversy.

It was her 2013 MTV Video Music Awards appearance, however, that really raised eyebrows.

She famously stuck her tongue out, waved a foam finger, and twerked against Robin Thicke during their performance.

Miley's dances have been considered as cultural appropriation...

And the song she performed with Thicke ("Blurred Lines") sparked a  huge debate about sexual consent.

But still, people were more obsessed over 2 two-piece latex ensemble.

Not only did she receive backlash online in response to the outfit — with people branding her a bad role model — but she was also named as one of the worst-dressed celebrities at the event by some news outlets, as well as being voted the worst-dressed celebrity of the year in a TIME poll.

In March, Miley told Demi Lovato during a livestream that the backlash discouraged her from wearing shorts and bikinis for years after the performance.

"I basically went through two or three years where I wouldn't wear shorts," Cyrus said during their Instagram live. "I stopped wearing skirts on stage, all this s--- because after the VMAs, and I had on my cute little nude bodysuit, everyone started comparing me to a turkey and putting a turkey in my outfit."

She continued.

"I was just so skinny and so pasty and they kept putting me next to this turkey, and I was feeling so bad on myself that I did not wear a bikini for like two years and no one thought that would ever make me feel some type of way."

Nevertheless, it seems Noah stands by her recent outfit choice.

In a series of tweets on Thursday night, Noah responded to 2 critics of her outfit.

She really didn't hold back.

And rightly so!

Here's the look that got everybody talking.
