Taking to Reddit, the new dad sought the opinion of others after his family accused him of "ruining their joy" with his actions.

The man, who has remained anonymous for obvious reasons, explained that he and his wife welcomed their first child at 11.05 pm on New Year's Eve.

But this timing didn't sit too well with the disgruntled dad...

So, when he was handed the birth certificate to sign, he decided to tweak his son's official date of birth.

However, he was stopped by the nurse who told him that the details must be filled out with the exact time and date...

Which then lead to a heated argument, as he claimed he "had the power" to do it as he is the child's father.

The dad had planned to put 12.05 am on January 1st as the date of birth instead because "one hour difference wasn't really a problem."

"I argued with her about it and told her that she was making a huge deal out of it," he said. "And that this was unfair to my son because he only lived in 2020 for just one hour."

He continued:

"Plus 2020 was a s***ty year, I'm glad it's finally over and I don't want my son to be associated with it. So adding 2021 would make more sense."

The nurse then informed the defiant dad that what he was trying to do was classed as forgery...

To which he responded: "I'm his dad so I get a say and take full responsibility for anything that happens later."

He claimed that the nurse "lashed out" at him...

And then got "more people involved" including the pediatrician who "disrespected me by raising his voice." "They ended up taking the form and didn't let me fill it out. My wife said that I embarrassed her by making a scene and acting stupid and lashing out."

He finished by explaining that, upon hearing about the incident, his family also condemned him for "ruining their joy" and causing his wife to be "stressed out"...

But that his brother agreed it was "ridiculous" for them to focus on a specific time and also said the baby "was born in 2021 because he'll have a whole year to live but only one hour of 2020." What do you think? Was the dad being reasonable? Or should he simply settle with the real date of birth? For more controversial parenting stories, keep scrolling...
