Dana Carvey Shares the Heartbreaking Way His Son Dex Died

Dex also worked as an editor on miniseries Beyond the Comics.

On Nov. 16, Dana announced some heartbreaking news.

“Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy,” Dana wrote in a statement co-written with his wife Paula, which he shared on social media.

He then announced that Dex died at 32 years old.

“Dex packed a lot into those 32 years,” wrote Dana.

“He was extremely talented at so many things—music, art, film making, comedy—and pursued all of them passionately.”

Dana added, “It’s not an exaggeration to say that Dex loved life. And when you were with him, you loved life too.”

“He made everything fun. But most of all, he loved his family, his friends and his girlfriend, Kaylee.”

The comedian continued, “Dex was a beautiful person. His handmade birthday cards are a treasure.”

“We will miss him forever.”

He closed his statement by writing, “To anyone struggling with addiction or who loves someone struggling with addiction, you are in our hearts and prayers.”

The cause of death, according to Dana, was an accidental drug overdose.

Dex Carvey isn’t the only celebrity to have died in 2023 from a drug overdose.

Euphoria star Angus Cloud passed away in late July. His death was caused by the combination of methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl and benzodiazepines.

Robert De Niro’s grandson, Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, died after consuming a combination of fentanyl, bromazolam, alprazolam, 7-aminoclonazepam, ketamine and cocaine at 19 years old. He had a small role in the 2018 remake of A Star is Born.
