Dedicated Nurse Dies Trying to Save Patient With Paraplegia From House Fire

With everything that’s been happening in the news these days, it’s easy to get discouraged with humanity as a whole. It seems that every day we hear about some new horrible story of violence, discrimination, or overall hatred, and the world only seems to get more and more divided as time goes on.

But one story of a nurse going above and beyond to rescue a paraplegic patient has truly touched the internet’s hearts. Let’s begin with some stories of small acts of human kindness…

If you’re convinced that the youth of today are completely spoiled and self-absorbed, watch this video. Seriously, who’s cutting onions??

While I’m sure this seemed like a very small thing to this Mom at the time, it’s everyday acts of kindness and generosity like this that make the biggest impact. We should all strive to be more like this woman.

When you’re out of work, every day can feel like a terrifying struggle to get by. Jon the Dog Walker probably has no idea what how much this gesture meant. Kudos to you, sir.

Everyone deserves to have a place to go where they feel loved and accepted during the holidays. Sometimes, chosen families are the best type of families.

This man’s quick thinking and bravery probably saved this person’s life. I’m pretty sure my response to this wouldn’t be anywhere near as courageous.

It’s awful to think about all the homeless dogs and cats who never experience this type of kindness. I have to admit, I gave my own spoiled pup a big hug after watching this.

This rowing instructor was the perfect person to find this note. Who else can totally see this being the ending of a romantic Hollywood movie?

Another example of someone taking action before something horrible can happen. I’m guessing this woman was extremely grateful for this quick-thinking stranger.

After spotting an infant running alongside an overpass, this Milwaukee County Bus Driver pulled over her vehicle and ran into oncoming traffic to save the child. Kind of makes you want to thank your local driver for their years of service, doesn’t it?

After taking the time to speak to this suicidal man on the brink of plummeting to his death, this officer convinced him to climb back onto the bridge and turn his life around.

Honestly, the fact that this product isn’t already available to purchase is nuts to me. What blind dog owner wouldn’t want one of these?!

Strangers helping strangers is truly a beautiful thing. Yet another seemingly insignificant action that can change a person’s entire outlook on life.

It’s easy to see a disaster like this happen and simply go about your day, assuming other people will show up to save the day. These men risked their lives to help others.

Sure, this video is pretty goofy, but this guy was actually in a pretty scary situation. If that helpful motorist hadn’t shown up, who knows what would have happened.

Not many people would have seen this going down and stepped in to do something about it, but this man very well could have saved this woman’s life with his selfless actions. You can also hear his son, who’s recording the video, say “My Dad’s saving the day” at the end. This is the kind of example we should be setting for our children. But there’s one heartwarming story that’s truly touched the internet’s heart this week …

Gwendolyn Theus, 64, was caring for a 71-year-old paraplegic patient when a house fire broke out.

She’d spent her final moments attempting to wheel her patient’s bed out of the room.

But in doing so, succumbed to smoke inhalation.

“Our prayers are with her loved ones and with the surviving victim for her recovery and loss of her dedicated nurse and friend,” State Fire Marshal H. Browning said in a statement.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Theus’s family.
